Beyerdynamic T90 Discussion and Support Thread

I bought a slightly used pair on Amazon for $512. My only complaint is that they start to feel a bit warm on my ears after a long listening session, which is kinda strange since they are open back.
I considered the HD600 before hand but I had heard the Sennheiser signiture is always a bit dark, and thats what I was trying to move away from by upgrading from the HD558.

Where at? They are $700.00 at amazon.ca. Some user reviews left an unfavorable impression on me anyway and think I might prefer 880 600oHM at almost half the cost.

Could always buy used? I think the price is reasonable. Compared to the Ultrasone Pro2900 which sells for pretty much the same price here in the US they are slightly more resolving.(note that I was unable to compare them with the same DAC). The Ultrasones have the better soundstage/imagine but the Beyers are never sibilant(a constant concern with the 2900) and have a more natural tone. Vocals are on a whole new level. And the Beyers are much less picky about what is driving them. The Ultrasones sounded like garbage through my Sansa Fuze(there were no mids, vocals were almost completely muted in some songs!) while the Beyer just sounds less dynamic through a portable player. It isn't the best solution but there aren't any glaring flaws that would ruin the experience.

I've been thinking of upgrading from my DT880 to the T90. I like the 880's sound signature, though I'd like a bit more weight in the bass and a wider soundstage. Is the T90 similar in sound signature to the DT880? If not, how different are they?

Is that huge the difference between a dt990 250 and the t90's? I've been asking myself if I should buy the t90's before jumping in the highest level (tesla t1) or save the money and go for the tesla.

@VolkswagenFox
I find them to be somewhat similar. You will probably like the T90 but it'll be better if you could try it out first.

Any chance you could expand a little on the comparison (assuming you own both)? E.g. is the T90 significantly better than the DT880 in any areas?  It is worse in any way?

Thanks!

Bass and mids are definitely better compared to DT880. More body, impact and less v-shaped. The Beyer house sound still remains. As for details IMO the T90 is a step or two above DT880, and yes I do own both of them. Soundstage on the T90 is also much wider (some might call them artificial).

Thanks, that's very useful. Bigger soundstage, more body to the sound, and more detail, without straying away from the DT880 sound signature is exactly what I want. I think I'm going to pull the trigger on these.

I read that some people where bothered by the treble. How does the treble compare to the DT880? Is the T90's detailed presentation perhaps due to a treble spike?

I don't think that theres a problem with the treble at all' in fact I think its one of the T90 greatest strengths, and it makes everything sound so clear. And its not really a spike either since it's peaks sustains itself for a good while.
Now the T70 on the may have a bit piercing treble....

Thanks for that!  That is exactly what I was hoping to hear as well ...

To me the T1 (in comparison) was more laid back (athough not a laid back can) and "trebley" while th T90 were so impressive in mids.
I just cannot picture anyone buying the T1 for just a good detailed sound.
It should be freaking amazing at that price.
Something like the T90 was amazing on vocals clarity that made me jump paying so much I would NEVER buy at this price range without listening first.
My 2 cents..
