I went to a wedding Friday, then about 4am I vomited on my t-90. Disappointed with myself.....

You married guys should remember that nifty little trick the next time you get struck with upgrade-itis.
"Sorry honey.....I can't keep using these!"

Just got a pair of these today. Initial impressions are that it's very dependent on the source material. Tracks with any kind of clipping/hot mixing are going to be shown no mercy with these 'phones. Part of why that's the case is the bump in high frequency response on the T90s. Clipping in an audio track results in high frequency harmonics because of the "square wave" nature of a clipped sinusoid. For the tracks that these do work with, I'm very impressed with the sound. I think my favorite albums to listen to them with right now are Welcome Oblivion - How to Destroy Angels (great bass), and Veckatimest - Grizzly Bear (great texture and complexity).

They make my DT990s (600 ohm) sound relaxed (less treble) by comparison.

I've got my T90s a few years ago. I tried them out on my Woo Audio WA6 SE and they sounded sort of OK. I wasn't really convinced of them, nor did I dislike them. So I put them away for quite a while, I even thought of selling them ...
As it goes, I went up in the audio food chain and I bought a Headamp GSX MK2. A super headphone amp, which I used to listen to with my HD800 in balanced mode. As remarked many times by so many head-fiers, the HD800 have super spatial resolution, but they tend to be a bit bass shy as well as a bit un-engaging, at least for me. Despite all that, I do like the HD800 a lot. I also have some Grados in my collection, and, after getting used to my HD800s, I put on some Grados: GH1 (large bowls), PS500, and RS2i. From those, I liked the PS500 best with its lush sound. But all Grados produce a sound that is nervous and too much straight in your face.
So I became adventurous and, you guess, I connected the T90 to the GSX MK2, naturally in single ended mode. And ha, all of a sudden, I heard something that I was missing with my HD800s: the sound was just right, I wouldn't say smooth, but just right, without the HD800's lean, somewhat distant sound. Despite the GSX's tendency to brightness, I do not perceive the sound of the T90 as very bright, just very engaging and balanced and the bass is absolutely stunning! I am enjoying the T90s immensely, particularly with jazz, and I am truly thinking of getting the T1 2nd generation, so as to be able to run the headphones in balanced mode. Well done, Beyerdynamic!

Or you could just throw a balanced cable on the t90

Sure! But is the T90 wired internally as balanced? If not it's so simple. Are there any instructions how to balance the T90? This would be helpful.

Did anyone had managed to replace the head cushion on his own by any chance? Mine is flaking bad so i got me a new one from the nice UK distributor. But i've no idea hot to open the i-don't-know-how-to-call-it-so-i'll-just-show-in-a-pic parts:

There are these grooves which most likely are the opening mechanism:

But i had no success thus far poking inside with a screwdriver, and the plastic material is just effin delicate to mess around with, i reckon. If anyone has a service manual it would be very useful of course. I didn't find any on Beyer's manuals page:

If you like the T90, best chances are you'll enjoy the airier T1.1 over the T1.2

Absolutely! Some time ago, I tried the T1.1 for a weekend, although with a different setup. At that time, I had the Woo WA6-SE as amp. One of my objections about the WA6-SE was that it wasn't really quiet with the headphones I have, including the HD800. The WA6-SE paired with the T1.1, however, was dead quiet. Presumably because of the T1's high impedance. The T1 sounded really great and I quite liked it, but time was too short for a serious listening. At that time, however, my preference was to find an amp that got rid of the humming noise I was hearing for once and forever. This is how I turned my interest to my present amp, the GSX-MK2. It's a great amp, dead quiet, fast, and very dynamic. Now that the T1 second offers balanced mode, it's a very strong candidate for my headphone collection. The HD800 is a bit bass shy, but I assume the T1 is not. There's actually another quite interesting headphone I'd like to evaluate, and you certainly know which one: the new Focal Elear. So I'll have to decide between these two headphones. What I keep reading tells me that the T1.2 might have a little more balanced sound signature than the Elear, but it's just a gut feeling.
