Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro 80-Ohm Thread

  I recently impulse bought the DT 770 Pro 80 ohms Because guitar center had them for $120 and the return policy there is very laidback. I do notice that they are a bit bright and harsh in the treble for me and they don't seem to be that much of an upgrade from my MDR-V6 phones. People compared these with the 598s or 600s. Should I try and AMP/Dac with these 770s or do the 600s have a more neutral sound in the first place?

 
HD600 is closer to neutral in the first place, you might also be in need of burning in the DT770 + a headphone amplifier to give it the boost that it needs.  HD600, too, would need an amplifier, more so than DT770, such as the Matrix M-Stage.  DT770 isn't quite as demanding, but will certainly sound best out of a desktop amplifier as well.

I also just picked up the 80ohm from guitar center.  How many hrs of burn-in did you guys put in for it to finally settle down?  I've put in 24hrs and the bass somewhat stopped being so sloppy at time but the highs are still a little piercing. Which amp/dac do you guys recommend not only for this set of cans but in general?  willing to spend up to >150 cheaper would be great though.  I want to keep these cans cause they're so comfortable to me. So i have 30 days to see if can bring out the full potential and keep them.

I haven't pulled the trigger but i've been looking into the Fiio Eo7k, Fiio e17, or  the Dragonfly 1.2.  From my research the eo7k and the E17 have the same DAC but different amps. the 7 is about $90 and the E17 is $140All those models are on the more portable side, I have also been looking into the Parasound zDAC which is a desktop usb DAC/Amp. People say it's one of the best for under $1000. You may benefit from reading up on those models. I'm still very new to all this though so take that with a grain of salt. Hopefully these cans get less bright or I will return them.

E07/E7/E5/E6 are poor amplifiers, you'll end up coming back to head-fi looking for an upgrade in no time.  I haven't tried the E17, but that might be a decent choice.
If your listening sessions won't be on the go much, then a desktop unit will make you quite happy.

Awesome that is extremely helpful. I will start looking into desktop. I know a place near me that will let me audition the Parasound zdac which is in my price range.

The amp will be used with a laptop, phone, ipod, comp, etc.  So no desktop for now well at least not for the dt770.  Maybe when i get a set of hifi cans.  For now a portable would be the best bet.  I'm really considering the e17.  which other ones would you guys suggest?

Sorry to bother guys but i had to ask somewhere...... Whats the difference between the lilmited edition 32ohm dt770 (aniversary edition) and the regular 32ohm dt770 that is now being sold on amazon....???

Some people told me the aniversary one was even more efficient with portable players and also that it sounds better than the regular 32ohm edition....

Can anyone confirm this please.... Right now i have a hd25 and i was trying to decide a hreat all rounder for home use.... Always got curious about the dt770 and now i am more interested than ever. I only use my headphones on portable player, i have no amps and i am not playing on buying any and also i listen to a eide fariety of music, but mostly indie, pop, rock and edm.

I like headphones with a similar sound signature to the hd25, amperior or over ear momentums.... I am not a fan of too warm headphones. Hate muffled stuff.... For example the mdr 1r sounds muffled to me without eq, specially the voices (i am saying this things just to make you guys understand what i am looking for since i never tried a beyer...).

Ok, someone who has the Limited Edition 32 Ohm and the normal Pro 32 Ohm version needs to answer that.

visually they look the same and i read some stuff somewhere about beyer stating that they are exactly the same besides the diffeent boxes and limited edition logo on the side....
But i also read some people, somewhere claiming that the aniversary limited edition sounds better and is easier to drive (many claim that the pro 32ohm is still very power angry to be driven by portable players)....
 
If anyones could clarify i would be more than than thankfull....

Probably they are the same.... sorry koolpep, i did not wanted to irritate you, but when you start seeing rumours online and then you read also for example that the m50, the m50 aniversary and now the new m50x all sound different (but acording to the manufacturer they are all the same...) you start wondering what is and what is not true.... ;(

No worries, Pedro. My irritation is not with you at all I just recently have made the experience with a proper test setup - that the most difference many people describe in lovely words are simply in your head...
 
Lots of people have very vocal opinions and they get repeated a lot, so they become "true" even if they are not. I am not saying these people lie, they really hear what they are saying, but it's subjective. So if you ask 3 people you get 4 opinions, LOL.
 
I believe a lot of the differences some people hear are just production variations or differently aged material, especially the ear pads. They can change the sound signature quite dramatically.
 
Anyhow, I am still sure you will enjoy the DT770, limited edition or not. It's a great headphone and very comfortable.
