Debating whether I should switch to the DT770 Pro from the V-Moda m100.

If I'm using an amp (most likely will buy fiio e11, what is a better pick 32ohm or 80ohm? Does the 32ohm have any advantages?

Does anybody use these cans for their portable setup? Is the size of the cups, length of the cord, and the need for an amp too much of a hassle? Are they really suited more towards indoor use?

The 32 ohm aren't the best from what I've heard. My 80 ohm was nice, I really enjoyed it, but I like my bass. The 80 ohm are the most bass heavy. The cable is pretty long (3 meters?) it's far from portable. That's why I made this thread: http://www.head-fi.org/t/643648/beyer-dt770-pro-80-detachable-cable-mod

Just ordered the DT770s can't wait to try them out.  Love the DT990s but wanted a closed back alternative for on the go use.

Good choice. Here's a tip for people who want their DT770 to sound closer to the DT880 and 990, take the pads off, then the ring that hold the driver and black foam padding on, prop the driver up so you can see the back of it and remove the white cap that is covering the back side. That cap increases back pressure so the cans produce more bass, removing it will even the bass out a little and bring out the mids and highs like it's siblings. (They don't have that cap)

See how the DT880 driver isn't covered by that white cap?

Here's the cap I was talking about, the piece in the center. Pop that off, It just presses on, nothing is really holding it on there.

well i can also braid or elastic band the cable. theres no issue taking it outside and walking around? wind noise? move around on your head. I auditioned the 32ohm today with a fiio e11 and it sounded great with the bass boost, the 80ohm should sound even better. im just worried that im gonna get annoyed by the lack of portability and if its a downstep from the m100. the m100 is uncomfortable and sound sig is hit or miss. mostly hit for me though since i mostly listen to rap/hip-hop.

DT880, however, has a filter in place of 770's white cap plus an additional black filter on the baffle.  How does the filter on the back of the driver affect the sound?

I think the black filter is there to lessen the harshness of the highs, and the cap on the back of the DT770 makes the drivers make more bass. I removed mine for a bit back when I had them and the bass was less and the highs got sharper. I ended up putting my caps back on because I liked them with more bass.

eBay and Amazon are great places to start.

The 250s sell for way cheaper than the 80s from what I could find.  Rather strange.

I picked mine up tonight, first impressions aren't super great, something just doesn't sound right with them.  Guess I'm just too used to my DT990s.

They are really harsh on some frequencies even more so then the dt990s. They only seem to have sub bass. Some tracks sound overly bassy while others just sound extremely thin.
Earcups sort of have a cheap feel to them guess it is to isolate them better (will try with dt990 cups)

Sound like the NS-10 of headphones.

Amping with FiiO E18 on the go and Schiit Magni at home.

Guess I'll grow to like them or just sell them.

You are spot on about the signature ........but I did find the 770 to be a wonderful addition to anybody's collection  (At least mine)

EarCup's feel cheap ? (You mean ear pads ?) I think the open cans just differ in Bezel density
