Beyerdynamic DT 150: Bloody Brilliant!

Also never seen a positive review of the DT100 for music listening pleasure so that's the one I'm really interested in. I've been tempted myself but put off by its supposed reputation for being all mids, they are classic headphone

They are excellent ,  for me the Mid-Fi endgame is 880-650-600-150-702 and now its done
IMHO the 150 is superior to my beloved 6XXs , its a fact ..fidelity is superior on the Beyers ....quite excited about the 100s , hope they are decent

I may be getting an HD 6xx sometime soon. I wonder how I will feel about them compared to the DT 150 and K712. I find the DT 150 and K712 on-par in terms of fidelity just different. Although I do use an aftermarket cable on the K712 and I haven't really bothered to check if it makes any difference or not. I hope they are at least decent as well. I've heard rather mixed opinions about the DT 100.

6XXs are classics , you'll love them ....my friend is a AKG connoisseur and he recently told me that he in the end prefers Beyers and Senns , he picked up the 150 as well , so I'm glad the 150s are getting famous !

The hd6x0 in the long run will reveal themselves as the superior headphone, specially the hd600. As the journey commands upgrades in amp and sources the hd600 will keep on scaling up far after many midfi cans have quit.

Congrats on your new hd600 Tech :)

If my auditions are any indicator I will really like them in the long term. I hope they stand the test of time like the K712 has for me. It seems the DT 150 is also going to stand the test of time for me, I haven't owned them long enough to know for sure. Only problem with auditioning is that it's hard to tell how good something may be to you long term. I have a friend that is an AKG conniousseur too, she likes AKGs, Beyers, and Senns about the same, she's owned the DT 150 for a few years. The DT 150 is starting to get the recognition it deserves, reviews do help out.

The DT150/dt100velorpad is beating the crap out of my favorite dt770/600ohms...this is painful. :p

Sonically they are quite ragged , its sad ...I'll just keep them as a collector's item and use them for the purpose "Monitoring" for my YouTube videos
I might get a refund of the extra for the dt100 , so I'll get some of my money back

Well have been listening to both of them and yeah don't buy the 100s , they are interesting for sure but they just don't hold up
Now determining single ear was incredibly difficult

First of all the bass is almost non-existent , no discernible extension , rolls off early... another interesting observation I made was that the driver during 30-100Hz test tones really gets over driven at every 10Hz sweep , it looses control for a sec and then it becomes normal ....that is only apparent at tones and not in real practice (Music)
The Mids are coherent but due to the thinness in bass , the lower mids sound slightly thin hence male vocals lack the body
There is some severe missing information up top , its not dark as a matter of fact its a bit bright but there are many dips up top
Overall the 100s are not up to snuff , they are decent ...that's it , I would only recommend it to the collectors

I respect the 100 , I mean its the 2nd dynamic in the world , also like the 48 its not having the new acoustic baffle apparent in the newer DT models , its a classic , historically , sonically its sub-par not to mention its super comfortable , more than the dt150s

DT150s are significantly better in terms of fidelity but I'm not expecting near HiFi sound from a headphone which is around twice my age , I'm keeping them

That's depressing you didn't get the full DT 100. So avoid the DT 100 then. I wonder how the 16 ohm differs from the 400 ohm. Sounds like the DT 150 is much better and a true hi-fi headphone while the DT 100 is basically a vintage phone in sound.

Beyer was kind enough to offer me a replacement right away but I didn't bother , waste of time

I wonder if you can get a good impression of a headphone when there's only one driver working, which is basically the case here.
If I were you, I would replace them and listen again.
