The only problem is that you can't get a black cover for the Manufacture DT880. It'll be steel, as the standard DT880.

Well, I did it. Behold, my new *600 ohm* custom DT880's:

Very very nice, Skylab. I've been thinking that similar scheme for the DT770s but in green would Luke nicely with a natural tone wood. I'm more likely to go with Darths but a guy can dream...

EDIT: Just saw the champagne on the previous page. That would Luke nicely also.

You perhaps can't answer this question but I'll ask anyway. Would you expect the 600 ohms to match a 'lesser amp' like the Total Bithead? The Bithead has no lack of gain; the issue would be SQ and whether the standard 250 might be a better choice.

Hmmm...not sure that would really matter, as long as the amp in question has enough power. It takes 3:00 on my Corda Opera to get to my normal (80db) listening level - anyone wishing to play music REALLY loudly with these does need an amp with quite a bit of gain.

The 250 ohm DT990's get to 80db at 1:00 on the Opera.

I was about to ask what you do with all of your non MANUFACTURE phones... until I saw your FS post. hah.

Interesting. I'm not sure that I would have any strong justification for going with the higher ohms but it's strangely appealing... Why did you if I may ask?

I have heard people saying that the 600 ohms were better, so I wanted to try a pair.

Very nice in Blue.

So are you happy with the 600Ohm version?

So far, but they need break in...they sound great out of the box, but I still believe they need break in...

The dt990/600 usually play at 1-1:30 on my Prehead MkII.........while you can get loudness with lesser-powered amps - they will NOT let the dt990/600 play to their capability. These are STILL my everyday "go to" 'phones.
