I wonder if $250 is his absolute budget though. D2000's would be barely out of reach (unless he checks the FS subforum). Would there be a different option?

The Fostex T50RP sounded decent to me out of the box, and I later compared them to my Grado 225i's and Senn 598s. With some investment into modification they really are excellent. Out of the box they were much closer to the 598s with their great mids. Other than the really natural mids, out of the box, it was OK and probably suitable. At $74 at B&H, there's little argument, though I don't own the d2k.

Denon D2000s or HiFiMAN HE-300s. For balanced SQ and detail I have to go with the HE-300s. They're the best sounding headphones available for under $400.

alright between the denon d2000s, the bose ae2is, and the akg 550, which ones are the best???

and for the denon d2000s, i found 2 sites to get them ant a pretty good price, but idk, if i can trust them, any advice???

I'm not sure if it's at all similar, but after all the Bose bashing on this forum I had the opportunity to give a proper audition to a regular AE2 last year.  My first impression was good as I though they were comfortable, but then I started pumping music through them.  In a nutshell, they sounded like full-sized iBuds to me: congested and wholly middling to headphones at less than half the price.

Between the D2000 and K550, it comes down to preference.  If you're looking for fun, go with the D2000 with its embellished sub-bass and overall smoother/looser/forgiving presentation.  If you're looking for more neutrality/accuracy, plunk down the cash for the better resolving/faster/tighter K550.  I personally prefer the latter after achieving the elusive seal, but there are many that would choose the properties of the former.  Also, take into account the level of isolation you require.  I can listen to my K550 at my normal volume with the woman on the couch right next to me without her hearing a note whereas the D2000 isn't a sealed headphone. (but I personally found them to isolate a bit better than they're said to by many here...)

and do the headphones i mentioned have to be used with an amp??? cause i really dont want to get an amp, i just want to use these with my ipod and phone.

Is it required?  No... but if you could upgrade to something for the K550/D2K down the road you will find reward in it.

I have no first-hand experience with either seller.  You may want to stick to Denon's network of authorized dealers.

I don't even know who to get them from anymore, I bought mine from J&R (who is out of stock). You might want to just stick with a reputable seller in the FS forum and get a like new pair from them.

+1. Other reputable/authorized/legit dealers include AudioCubes, ListenUp (they sell on Amazon; they're a real BnM store too), Amazon, HeadRoom (headphone.com), etc.
