I go with slightly used.  dt-880's were 150.  I lucked out and got slighly more used 770's for $40 plus shipping on ebay.  You could get 770 new for that price.  For ultra portable-AKG has a newish line out that's nice-I have 420. So, I gave you a portable, an open and a closed.  If you want really bass heavy, I wouldn't know what to recommend.  Hope this helped.  For arounf 100, u could go with audio technica a700 or ad700 and save some money.

I'm sure some will recommend the ATH-M50, they have pretty good bass but in my opinion, not enough. Phiaton MS400's are said to have great bass. The V Moda Crossfades have even more bass but slightly less quality. Those of course are under $200. Over that... I'm not sure in terms of bass.

I'm quite happy with my DT880s. I now crave a tube amp to see how much better they can get, but I'm still enamored with them off of the SS amp I've got.

They are by no stretch of the imagination "perfect" headphones, but they very well may be the "best under $250".

Honestly I had the Image One's for a while before getting the P5s. I thought they sounded pretty good, and though they seemed pretty durable, and they did look very cool, I was swayed by the sweet build of the P5s. Now, I do like the sound on the P5s a little bit better, though on sound alone it isn't worth the extra $150. However, if you want something that has great sound, AND has the build quality/durability to back it up, I would recommend the P5s hands down. Though it would be remiss to say that the Image Ones can't hold their own. Happy shopping :)

Actually I are most interested in aquiring a Woo Audio WA3, but that's close to $500 so it's going to be a good long while.

I'd say the grossly under appreciated ATH-AD900 deserves a vote here. It's just below $250 and really is an amazing headphone. I've recently regained complete and unfailing respect for it, after automatically going for my ATH-A900Ti for the last two years or so. But now I'm not so sure which of the two is the better headphone. The AD900 surely is the more transparent one. In fact, its transparency is quite amazing, if you ask me. (Ask me!) If that's your thing, besides slightly colored mids (which make them sing with any vocal and 'natural' music), then you can't go wrong with Audio-Technica's ATH-AD900.
