They're really worth a try. I haven't compared both directly, but to my recollection of the D7000, the W1000X is a much livelier and more vocal-centric headphone yet it doesn't skimp on the bass as so many ATH woodies have in the past. I like the W1000X a great deal more (which is why I own one instead of a D7000, of course) but I can really see them as being identical in audio quality (build quality goes to the ATH). 
 
While it doesn't isolate as well as my K272, it definitely isolates far better than an open headphone. I wasn't able to listen to Grados in the same room as my wife while she had the TV on before, but now we're both happy with our respective medias.

There is also the ATH AD2000x (I think they are called). I have not heard them but they have been described as a brighter L3000 which if true could be a winner

I've heard (and agree) that the W1000X sort of fits that description, are you sure you're not thinking of that one? I believe the AD series are always open, aren't they?

I had heard there was another "X" ATH. I wonder what these sound like? Their non-woody closed phones have always been so V shaped to me.

A few others link back to it. It sounds like it is very bass light, which would be at odds with the L3000 for sure.

I have heard many good things about the T5p, they seem to compare well to the T1 (though not AS good) as well as being easy to drive, though they are bigger than the ed8s which are also a audiophile fav (some people like them better than the hd800 and lcd2 lol)

As some of you pointed out there is a huge difference in isolation between closed back model - the same is true with open back though - the hd 800 being as if you dont wear a headphone at all - very open back others isolate at bit more.
 
How is the T1 in that respect being (I think) semi open? Was thinking that when my w1000 don´t isolate that much the t1 might not be that much more open? Don´t need a totally closed can, but just a little isolation
