It's just not worth the money, no matter what the bass sounds like. I sold my Triports when I got $30 PortaPros and realized that they sound better than the Boses (and had about the same amount of bloaty bass).

Well:
DT770 Pro ($220 TTVJ) + M3 (~$350) = $570
BOSE TriPorts ($149 AMAZON) = $149 or BOSE QC ($299 AMAZON) = $299

With the DT770s, I'd need an amp, and since I plan on getting an M3 (or Hornet, gah!) for the SA5k's anyways, I might as well get that amp. So, it'll cost more getting the DT770s. I might get better defined and powerful bass with the DT770s, but getting BOSE headphones would be nearly less than half the cost. I'm not sure if it'd be worth it to spend that much more just for movie/gaming headphones.

If it's "just" for movies and gaming, you don't need to spend money on an amp.

Besides, you could probably get a used pair of 770's for $150-$175. Even if you did get the Boses, you'd be buying the amp for your SA5000's anyway, wouldn't you? So it's not fair to factor that into the price of the 770.

DT770-80.
Recable them with canare starquad, in a "Y" cable configuration.
Leave the remaining "jumper-wire" holes unplugged

PM saturine for a second oppinion.... I recently traded this can to him, and as I recall he was surprised.

If you take out the white felt ring inside it also increases the bass.

AMP (!!!) with a mint or PA2V2.

It's still not $570. You really don't need an M3 to hear that nice bass. Even something like a cmoy will pull it out. Also, price match at guitar center with the Amazon.com DT770 which is $150. yeah, amazon's is 250 ohms and Guitar center is 80 ohms (the kind i would recommend) but guitar center doesn't seem picky on the ohms when they price match.

With the Beyer you get MORE bass for slightly more money -- and then you can use the can for music also, where as the Bose would be single-purpose (before they break that is)...

Oh, and this is just from what I've read

Explain more.......

Do you need to print out something and bring it in? Right now Amazon says it will take 1-2 months to ship, will this matter? Do you have to haggle a lot? Will Guitar Center ever get the new, cooler-looking Beyers?

My impressions of bose triports, compared to other cans in its price range (HD580, DT770, K501, K240s, K240M, MDRV6, HD280)....

Boomy one note bass, VERY little sub bass extension. Bass is impactful, but bloated and lacks refinement. Acoustic bass has a thuddy/lumpy kind of sound... with little air or sense of body acoustic resonance. Harsh, semi-honk-ey mids and minimal treble extension.

IMHO any of the above headphones out of a hi-fi receiver, cmoy, or govibe is a better movie-watching can than the triport. Note also that the triprot uses very britle plastic and has some history of premature (like within 1 week of use) fracture.

But... thats how I for one hear it.

This is your last warning....

[size=large]DT770 price check 12/21/05 @ 2:57 a.m. — Amazon.com & bhphotovideo.com (both 250ohm … $10 more for 80ohm).

DT770 doesn't turn up at guitarcenter.com online shop... Bose Triport still $149

Now I finally understood how some go for that 50 000 posts in two months rating.

Ask the same questions all over again, disregarding the fact that they are already asked at least twice a week, everybody knows the answers and answers are readily available via a quick search.

Once you ask such a FAQ, you get a zillion almost identical replies. Like in this thread.

It begs the question: Why?

After all, less posted to threads get pushed down, because they don't have as many replies, EVEN WHEN they could have much more novel, interesting and fresh content.

It's so sad.

Call me cranky, but I think it's a loss to all of us. Good stuff gets lost in the same-o-same-o noise posted over and over again.

Its certainly not helping the quality of content around here having to wade through same stuff every single day

To add to the noise: DT770

AND

Ultrasone HFI-700 as a lesser contender.
