thanks! so they're pretty much in the same ball park atm?

It depends on what kind of music you listen to.  If you listen to a lot of rock or rhythmic music, the AD2000x would probably be preferable, at least to me.  K702 65th, although far more well rounded than my old K701 is still best with "natural" music like acoustic, instrumental, classical, jazz, etc.  The AD2000x still gives the perception of being a faster, and likely more well damped headphone.

Well so far they compare very favorably.  At first I was starting to lean toward the K702 65th but after applying some slight eq to the AD2000x I think it's pulling ahead for me.  So far I feel like they're both in the same level of performance, just different flavor.  Right now, with only maybe 2 hours or so on them, the AD2000x is very aggressive in the upper mids, like a grado but some eq seems to help alot and it seems to respond well to EQ.  Right now I have 2.5k to 7k cut just barely, and a slight rise from 110hz down on the AD2000x.  I don't feel the need for EQ on K702 65th.  Maybe more burn-in will take some of the edge off.  I know it's a trait of AT's but my A900x isn't even that agressive in the upper mids.

The AD2000x has an awesome impact and transient response, almost on the level of higher end orthos.  Soundstage on the K702 65th is a little more cohesive though slightly less airy.  Both are very smooth across the midrange, the AD2000x being more forward and the K702 65th much more spacious.

Again these are just early impressions.  I'll try to go more in depth when I get some more hours on them and get a better feel for them.

Hum very intersting , i didn't compared directly AD2000X and K702 ANV as you , (only did it with AD2000 , wich i compared later with AD2000X also right out of box) , and i think that Upper Mids have been increased on AD2000X in comparison to AD2000 .

But let's see what will happen with time , when you will get more used to AD2000X or / and / burning if you think that it can help

this is mainly @Cute

Well, I got a cable 90% finished for my ad2k, the switchcraft connector is in the mail still. I really love the feel and how the cable moves. It is a 26awg mogami twisted quad. I sheathed it in 550 paracord jacket and just used shrink wrap at the y split. Although I really love the way it feels i'm probably not going to solder it up. After listening more to my ad2k and reading a few posts from those who have recabled it sounds like a null change. Stock they will stay, not going to go messing with a good thing :D  Don't worry i will find something to cable with this, unless someone really wants it for a project (PM me if you happen to)

Cheers, ~M

Well, I was talking to AT's parts division, and you can buy the AD2000 drivers for $45 a piece + shipping. So, someone could buy the cheapest 53mm AT ADxxxx headphone like the AD900, replace the drivers, and have a few hundred bucks left over (~$280 vs ~$600). I'll probably do this in the near future. Just letting you guys know

Sorry if I missed it earlier in the thread, but does anyone know when these will be released in the US? Thanks!

Hmmm, wouldn't hurt to have a spare driver laying around at that price... Looking forward to that if it happens Trae.

I'm not sure if that's the best idea. I imagine the drivers are tuned differently based of the different cups. Using a different, "better" driver sounds like it would just throw off the whole sound.

The AD900 1000PRM and 2000 have the same headphone design. The only difference between them is the 1000 and 2000 have a Y cable, the ring holding the drivers in place is chrome, the wing system is a bit different, and there is no mesh material behind the grill. I already purchased the drivers. They should be coming in either tomorrow or Monday, so we'll see how this pans out. I'm basically going to have a single cable AD2000 bass monster when it's all said and done. Can't wait

Well, OJNeg, it seems you were right. The AD2000 driver is much thinner than the AD900 driver, but this mod is completely possible. I just have to find something to wedge inbetween the ring and the driver to secure it in place. I'll be making another thread on this because this isn't related to the x series of the AD headphones.

Would I be right in thinking the AD900x is competing with the Fidelio X1 and the MA900? Has anyone heard the AT's and one of the others? Looking for an open headphone mainly for gaming and these 3 seem to be the best choice atm. Want something I can wear for hours on end so Priority would be Comfort > Relaxed treble but still detailed (AD900's were unbearable) > Bass impact.

I use my AD900X for BF3. Excellent in every way. The best comfortable gaming can with bass I have ever used over any can I have ever used. The stage the bass the 3D sense of space not to mention the pillow like comfort. These are the best gaming cans I can recommend to anyone. Music is awesome on them too.
