Hi - do you think it’s the R2R-1 that’s not resolving enough or other parts of your chain? Which headphones do you use? I find my R2R-11 very resolving so would be very surprised if the R2R-1 was less so. What have you compared the R2R-1 to that was ‘more’ resolving in your opinion?

It´s not the r2r 1, it is the rest of my system. I have Audioquest NightOwl... I haven´t heard anything more resolving, r2r 1 is the best, but not worth to keep in my low chain. You have better headphones...

Placed an order for the R2R-1 tonight. Looks like the Mimby's on its way to work! I'm honestly not expecting a huge upgrade, as the mimby has been mighty impressive, but I'm looking forward to having the full stack that will use both DAC and amp at their full potential.

The Mimby and the R2R 1 are so different it's hard to make a fair comparison, but I'd take the R2R 1 over the Mimby in all cases except for maybe studio monitoring or other professional applications.

The mimby doesn't sound like balls... but whatever, it does sound better in conjunction with the Eitr.

I already wrote a brief comparison and even though I haven't turned the mimby for a while I imagine it's still accurate.

My R2R 1 arrived a few days ago and I couldn't be happier with it. It's a marked improvement over my Mimby+Eitr combo. First basic impressions are that it's tonally very similar to my peasant ears, but is very noticeably more resolving. It also has a higher output voltage than the Mimby, so I'm a few notches lower on my NFB-1 now. I've tried it mostly via COAX from my Eitr, but noticed no drop in quality when using USB directly from the PC (note: I got it with the USB Isolator option). Also, NOS mode does sound warmer to me, but it's not night and day. I'm more than happy with with the default 8x OS mode.

Long story short is that this combo sounds fantastic together and works flawlessly with my PS4 Pro via Toslink.

You really should distinguish between devices that just isolate (ie, USB input & output) vs devices that convert (and to a degree, also isolate. I use one of that latter devices because I found that I prefer coax input with all 3 DACs I've tried it with vs USB straight in.

My S/PDIF converter is the Musical Fidelity V24/192 (no longer sold). It converts a USB input to coax output. With that I use the very fine sounding Oyaide DR 510.

I've been using the USB input on the R-28 directly from a Mac Mini without any problems. I'll talk about experiments with the different inputs and USB isolation in my review though, once I've had enough time to play around.

My ears aren't well refined, however I've not been able to hear any difference between USB and COAX (+Eitr) with my R2R-1 (which has the USB isolator upgrade). I'm looking forward to hearing about said experiments.
