I had them checked at Costco and everything came out OK. I always keep the volume very low.

All headphones I've tried sound sharp and harsh to me. Something is wrong with my ears I guess. I went through several pairs until landing on my current pair of LCD-3 Non-Fazor. I'm using a Red Wine Audio Bellina HPA with the most mellow tubes I can find. The problem was worse with other electronics I've tried. Cymbals, snares, and the like can still be difficult. Could a headphone cable help?
I'm the same. It is normalish. Audeze is the only headphone I can tolerate. Everything else is way too bright. I use the Woo WA22 with mellow tubes. So the same story.
Which headphone stage does your Bellina have, balanced or SE? I'm just curious as I am using the amp-only RWA Cassabria and find the balanced stage from it to rival just about any amp I've heard with the LCD-3. There aren't too many other RWA users on head-fi that I've come across.
I actually like the LCD-3F and Cassabria with smooth but more bright tubes like Amprex and Telefunken. I have a Mullard which is great but probably a bit too laid back for my taste with the Audezes (with an HD800, however, it's really superb.)
My Bellina has both and I use the balanced. It's really not an RWA problem though. I tried a lot of other gear and settled on the Bellina.
Is a headphone cable a waste of time for this?

Have you tried tube dampers? They are making the rolled-off stuff sound truly rolled-off (7308s). This is definitely the most mellow sound I've heard through headphones.
Has anyone heard a headphone cable they really like with the LCD-3?
