I am looking to upgrade to one of the Bursons (sorry, not a tubes guy).  Conductors seem interesting options.  Has anyone here auditioned both the Conductor and the SL version with LCD3?  Does the big brother justify the nearly $400 price diff?

I might be mistaken but I believe the sl with the 9018 chip is the same as the bigger brother but lacking the pre amp portion, so they should sound pretty much the same.

2W seems like lots of power already? I thought LCD3s are efficient enough (not dynamics, but...)? You're saying even 2W is not enough?

Actually the SL is 2.8W according to Burson. But that's at 8 ohms so the LCD3 gets less than 1 watt.

Well, I am convinced then. Not that I plan to listen at 120dB SPL, but it's good to have that headroom. I currently use DacMini CX (that I mod for 5 ohms) and it works pretty well will LCD3 at *only* 0.5W.

I ordered a Soloist and it should be here around the 28th, probably before the LCDs. I also have a MF X-Can v8 but I'm guessing and hoping that the Soloist would crush it
I have a Schiit Modi for a DAC. I would probably want to upgrade it at some point, this isn't little league anymore

Soloist pairs nicely with the 3. I have one myself; I would only add that I find the Soloist a little laid back compared to the Schiit amps that I have. Can't go wrong with the Burson at all (unless you want to go balanced at some point).

Yeah I read in this thread and others that the Moljnir was more aggressive with them, and aggression scares me One problem I have with my current phones (GS1K) is that they can get too bright and fatiguing, so I wanted to move away from that.
