Audeze LCD-2 Impressions Thread

The pads ae adhered to the cups with an adhesive ring.

Changing pads almost always will alter ANY headphone's sound. Now whether you can live with the changes is the question.

As for our leather vs leather-free pads, we tried to keep them as consistent as possible to retain the sound.

I always recommend others check Dekoni sheepskin pads as an alternative if official pads are too shallow for your ears. Mainly because most people are happy with them as an alternative.

I'm sure it's been mentioned in this thread before, but what is the best way to reattach the pads if they came off? LCD-2.2 Prefazor with OG pads, I'd like to keep the OG pads if possible.
If you contact Audeze per mail, I think you can get new rings for attachment for free.

How do current LCD-2 rosewoods compare to LCD-2 classics? Any differences in drivers?

Heard the Classic ones (fazors i think) some time ago. They sounded a little bit dirty/frayed for me. Are the non classics cleaner sounding?

There are two versions:
- LCD2
- LCD2 Classics

The LCD2's drivers have fazors, the LCD2 Classics' drivers are non-fazors.

I own both. Neither can be accused of being bright or forward sounding headphones but the classics take the dark sound signature to another level. They are one of my favourites though and paired to a valve amp the sound is like swimming in molasses, paired with a glass of good red wine it can be intoxicating.

So yes, the LCD2's are "cleaner" sounding than the LCD2 Classics, presenting more treble detail and a tighter and faster bass.

No. The LCD2 is definitely not a harsh sounding or sibilant headphone.

Remember the LCD2 Classic come in two versions, an open back and a closed back. The closed back version is officially just named the "LCD2 Closed Back" but uses the non-fazor driver, the same that the LCD2 Classic (which the open back version) use.

The LCD2 (that uses the fazor driver) is open back only.

You can see the models below from Audeze's website. The first LCD2 is the fazor model, while the last two are the non-fazor (or Classic) models.

The closed back has a completely different tuning than the 2C though

I must admit among all my sold headphones I only miss the LCD-2C...

Yes, that was my impression aswell. I dont't think it's because of different design type (closed vs. open)

Must be completely different drivers in each of these.

Hi again,

when did the LCD-2 non classic (rosewood ones) that you can buy new today get its last revision? How can i visually differentiate it from older revisions? I only know that they changed the headband at some point on earlier revision. Any other indicators?

Some other topic: Which oil could/should be used for the wood?

Pads have probably been replaced in 2021 like on all models.
Fazor and headband have been added/switched in 2017?
