Astell & Kern KANN - DAP with Massive Storage & Battery

Thanks for your comment - I admit I'm not very technically minded but Surely a gigabyte is a gigabyte? If a card that is sold as a 256gb card and confirmed as having 256gb capacity by my PC is reported by the Kann as only having 232gb capacity it's reasonable to conclude the Kann is out of line?
No matter where you put the card it will tell you the same amount. Any memory card or hard drive does the same thing.
For instance mine currently has 64gb internal + 200gb microsd + 250sd. So it should be 514gb. But total is actually 469.52gb actual.

If your budget allows, try AK T8IE MKII. I have one, it complements Kann. Very balanced sounding, almost the same as my HD650 with WA8 :D

Anyone able to work the mtp connection using Windows 10?
I have it hooked up to win10 right now but its hit or miss. I'm not sure why sometimes it shows up and other times it doesn't. I also can't get the dac driver to install. Also, still don't know why the memory cards randomly don't show up. Its weird. I love the sound and I'm real happy about them understanding the need for more space than one microsd slot. I just hope it's a software issue that can be resolved with an update.

Thanks man.. That sounds a lot like my iFi audio nano issue too. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Only with my KANN, i got consistent "not being recognizable" LOL...

memory cards = try sandisk? or trascend? then format to fat32.

One memory card is SanDisk the other is the free one that came with it. Thought it was off brand but I was wrong. Just never heard of it before. Its k something? Had a couple thousand reviews on Amazon. Mostly positive. But both cards were formatted with the Kann before I loaded them up.

Since the firmware update:

(1) Kann plugged into PC no longer sees the SD card – just sees the internal memory and microSD card. I have to remove the SD card and plug it into my PC to delete/add music files. This is a PITA (tho transfer is much faster when plugged directly into PC).
EDIT: Kann has determined the SD card is “damaged”, but it works fine on my PC (I deleted and then added music to it, and played it, on the PC: it’s fine). I've queried A&K about what to do.

(2) Genre scanning has broken – most genres not seen on all files. (I use MP3tag, I know exactly what my genre tags are.)

Emailed them asking for the original firmware, since it's not on http://www.iriver.com/support/download_list.asp.

Was very happy with my Kann before that!
I also had the same issue with my SD card as well after the update, I had to copy my files to the computer, then reformat the SD card, then copy the files back to the card. All is find now.

Good job,Astell &Kern , ok love my Kann
Simply works, first dap, just now getting back in audiophile world , at first did not like design but grew on me love it, ( having never held other ak),
Mine is well made sturdy portable Astro Silver machine////// Sound is amazing, soundstage bass, miss treble, Kudos to AK creating a good product in my opinion, the sound is amazing, mine after burning is amazing. Ok only iem at present kzate, seems kann knows these buds and brings out best. As a new customer to dap game after researching choose AK which appeal has a hit with Kann. just my 10 cents im very happy with my Kann, SQ wow, listening as writing this, cheers

True. The connection with windows (and, to certain extent, very selective sd-card accepted) are the only issues with kann that i found. Other than that, yes, it rocks. Ironically (and thankfully for me), the usb dac connection to windows work very well, with no glitch. I guess this is due to driver released by ak themselves. They should release another driver that can recognize their device in MTP. I hate having to take out the sd card everytime i need to copy music.
