Are there any headphones better than the Sony MDR-7506?

No, can you explain what this is?

Beyerdynamic DT250 pads are the exact size for the MDR-V6 and MDR-7506 and many people find them to be farm more comfortable and they will change the sound a bit as well.

Wait for somebody that has done it to confirm how they affect things, but that's what they're talking about.

I wouldn't own a pair of V6's or 7506's without changing the pads.  The Sony pads disintegrate, period.  It's only a question of when and it usually happens when you're wearing them and someone asks, "What's all those black specks all over your ears, hair, neck, and shoulders?"

Studios order them by the dozens, have velour pads waiting and jerk the Sony pads off as soon as they pull them -new- out of the box.

As you can see, you don't even have to purchase the more expensive DT-250 pads, the demand is so great there's an aftermarket mfr that makes the velour pads for the V6/7506 (Pearstone).

As for sound effects, it may increase the bass a tad by allowing more of your ear to be fully enclosed.  Obviously, that depends greatly on the particular ear.

The Pearstone pads have it right - they come with the foam liner and the pads are exactly the same size as the Sony's as best as I can tell.  The DT-250 pads are just slightly larger and you have to carefully cut the foam liner off of the Sony pads becase the Beyer's don't come with them.
