Android phones and USB DACs

Cannot be done AFAIK.

Other DAC/amps can do this though.

Thanks for the feedback. What are some other options for doing this? Do Vmoda, sony ph, or fostex have this capability?

The new 128GB is faster than expected even inside the phone.

Can folks with a Nexus 5 share what ROM / kernel combination they are currently running for USB audio support? I've been running DroidKang (CM11 base) for the past few months and it's damn stable with loads of good features. However it looks like the dev has gone AWOL (no updates in over a month) so I'm looking to switch, maybe to PAC -- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2670238

Plug-n-play USB DAC support is a must. I know this was originally added via CyanogenMod so any CM11 based ROMs should work. However the vast majority of custom ROMs now seem to be AOSP based so I'm not sure if the support will be there. Would appreciate any recommendations for working USB audio ROMs that are regularly maintained.

Cheers,

Like you, I am frustrated with the disappearance of the DK dev AND how more and more custom ROMS are AOSP based, not CM based.  I am still running DK19, but it's driving me nuts.  I tried to flash PAC but it didn't work properly.  In the past, I've had problems with PAC-MAN Roms.  They are not known for rock solid stability because they pack in so many features from different dev groups.

The one to check out is "cRoid Simple."  It's proudly CM11 based and the dev built this rom much like DK, except that this dev is not MIA.  That's probably where I am going next. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2623088

Otherwise I may switch to Euroskank, which is CM11 (on XDA, you'll see the thread about CM11 kangs, that's the one) based. Also, I believe Beanstalk is CM11 based.  I know HellKat is built on CM11 source, but I haven't tried it.

But yeah, cRoid Simple is probably my next rom/kernel combo of choice.

The following combo has worked for me :-
1) Samsung Galaxy J SC-02F at 4.3
2) OTG cable
3) DAC
   a) Apex Glacier
   b) Tralucent DACAmp One
4) Player - Google Play Music

I've not run it long enough to determine what the battery drain impact will be on the phone though.

Sorry for asking something that I could find if I read the 4000 posts, but... with the recent launch of new android phone & 4.4, is there a phone/tablet that can finally be a good source for a HUGO :

- More than 128 Gb capacity
- DSD out to external USB DAC
- 24/192 out to external DAC ...without using USBAPP that has (IMO) rudimentary GUI and limited Playlist support.

Some sort of Sony ZX2 with 256 Gb & DSD support...

I've got very little internal storage on my 8GB Moto G, so I've invested in a 64GB USB flash drive to carry audio files with me to upload to the phone as I want them. It's a bit of a clunky solution to having little on board storage, but hey it's cheap (-ish).

I'm curious as to whether it's feasible to expect the following solution to work :

attach an unpowered USB hub, with both my flash drive and UD110 DAC plugged into it, then attach the hub to the phone via OTG Y cable, with the power connection of the OTG Y attached to mains or computer (to power/charge the phone), and manage to playback files from the flash drive in UAPP on the phone while outputting the audio to the UD110 ?

I have already tried and failed to get the USB hub (linked below) to work with a standard (unpowered) OTG cable, both with the hub plugged into its own mains adaptor, and with the hub drawing power directly from the phone itself...

http://www.unitek-products.com/en/product_detail.php?id=161

I see there was much discussion way back on this thread relating to how some phones would only route audio through USB when using a hub connected to the phone (or some such). If anybody has any advice as to a USB hub (powered or unpowered) that might allow this type of functionality (give or take the OTG Y supplying current to the phone) or has any knowledge of such a setup working successfully then I'd be delighted if they could share their experiences with us, before I randomly start shelling out money on hubs right left and centre etc.

Cheers,
swab

Looks good, I'll give it a try. Thanks for the tip!

Also hosted on xda as a devdb project so the 200MB zip downloaded in 20 seconds rather than 2 hours+ like some [Android File Host etc]

Hello anyone, this is galaxy note 3 with C5D. Interesting, Samsung made fast detect to this DAC, including stock audio player can play 24bit content.

currently looking for another phone, and cheaper one. Does Moto-G could do the same thing with Samsung did?
