I'm using jacknorris' USB hotplug patch on top of a stock 4.2.1 ROM, and the 4.2.1 kernel in his thread. 

BTW - what color does your DragonFly light up when plugged in? Mine is always pink unless USB Audio Recorder PRO overrides it. 

I did see an ALSA error message in the kernel log. The kernel is definitely detecting the DragonFly but still no sound comes out. I'm no stranger to the Android framework and kernel so if it's an easy fix I might look into it myself.

When I was testing the DragonFly, it was lighting up pink as well. It would be great if you could hack a fix for the DragonFly. The Nexus 7 and DragonFly would make a great combo.

I think there is a bug in the hot plug implementation. I can reliably crash the setup. Luckily, jacknorris knows about it.

thought that it was worth mentioning that the MySt PortaDAC has been confirmed to work with USB OTG on a few devices like S3 and will work with any android device with simple bluetooth!

I am having a break on getting my N7 to work with OTG. Got to frustrated and will start again this weekend! Until then i am using the N7 with BT to the DAC of my 1866! Works a dream!

Would you get better quality sound using a good compatible amp through usb audio out with the s3 or buying a dap of the equivalent price of the amp?

When pairing amp and headphones, synergy is the key.

But if i buy say an iqube for my s3 and use the usb audio out would that produce better sound quality than say a standalone hifiman 602 or studio v?

I like the ibasso dx100 but its a bit too expensive for me.

I want to say that it looks like they've got Voodoo Sound up and running for CM 10.1, but it's just as likely these are operating instructions for a Chinese toaster. Can anyone recommend a good warm, smooth, rich, detailed sounding compatible amp/dac to use with my Samsung S3? I'll be using Denon D5000 headphones. I don't mind spending up to $500.

Colour me sceptical - Supercurio hasn't released Voodoo Sound for the Note 2, so at best this is a kanged adaptation of the original Voodoo Sound and shouldn't by rights be called Voodoo Sound.

If your budget is up to $500 I would recommend the HeadAmp Pico. I would just wait until I get mine back from Justin though to confirm his new fix for compatibility with the International S3 is working...

The Pico has always been compatible with the US S3, but not the International S3 or the Note 2. Justin has recently worked on the compatibility issue and believes he has cracked it, so that is why it is listed as compatible in DanBa's list. He has done the fix on mine, and they are presently shipping to me, which is why I suggested holding out a little while until there is more confirmation. He is awaiting some more feedback before applying the fix to more Picos, but all newly purchased Picos should come with it by default.
 
In relation to comparison with the other devices you mentioned, no idea I'm sorry, not heard any of them.

What also interests me is whether a smartphone could provide enough power to run the mobileStreamer which is really interesting in terms of its diminutive size, Kevin replied me and mentioned " ...it does have a higher power consumption and would not be an appropriate choice for some installations."

Thanks for your reply. Based on what you said maybe the Go DAP X would be better as it's officially compatible with the S3. Not sure how the sound quality would be on the Go DAP X though. Does the Pico draw power from the S3 when plugged in?
 
I read somewhere that android phones can only output 16 bit 44khz audio - can anyone confirm this as true? If that's the case I guess a DAP would provide overall better sound quality with higher resolution files.
