AKG K601 & K612 Pro Owners... UNITE!!

I don't own the K601, but I do agree that it is severely underrated; it certainly doesn't get the amount of praise it deserves considering the price/performance ratio. With the HD580 disappearing, I think the K701 is perhaps the best bang for the buck among higher-end cans (the DT880 03 for $150 deal notwithstanding).

i sort of glossed over the k601 but had the k501 prior to buying my k701, which i like a lot. i had a chance to listen to justhavingfun's hd580 at the honolulu mini-meet and really liked them...a great buy for the price they're going for, IMO. if the k601 is similar to the k701, which i've heard they are, then at $188 it sounds like a pretty good deal. but the k701 at $250 isn't too shabby, either.

Some asked me if I thought that owning the K601 and DT880 would be redundant. So far, I'd say "No."

The K601 gives me a wider, more airy soundstage. It also, to my ears, has a little more "oomph" in the bass, and the fact that the highs don't quite extend as well as the DT880s make them less-fatiguing.

The DT800 is super clear, has more than enough bass in my set-up, and have the edge in comfort. The two cans compliment each other nicely.

I am with you, brothers. They arrived this morning.

Now someone please bid on my Senns and my old Gameboy Advance SP on ebay.co.uk so I can tell my girlfriend...

But to be serious, brand new out of the box, with barely 30 minutes playing the new (still unreleased, actually) Patrick Wolf album, and they have the bigger bass and wider soundstage (than the HD595s) that I was looking for, plus bags of detail. Also they're supercomfortable, more so than the HD595s even, and I think they look a lot better too.

Yes, these are, I think, the headphones I've been looking for to complement my MS1s. That bit more involving and exciting than the Senns, and more refined / spacious / less rocking than the Alessandros.

Yes. Talk Talk will sound amazing with these.

I picked up a 2nd hand K601 set last week. I really like them a lot. I've had the K701 (and a bunch of others in my sig.) and I think prefer the K601 to it. I always appreciated the K701, but it always sounded a little distant and detached to me.

I find the K601 to be an exellent all-arounder, perhaps a slightly lighter and wider sound than my other favorite all arounder, the HD600. The HD600 is a little richer and clearer in the lower mids, and the K601 a little cleaner on the very top.

I've gone through headphones like crap though a goose in the last 18 months, but the K601 and HD600 will both be staying.
