Please post your resonance mods.

Resonance is my main beef with these headphones.

It's definitely my main beef with them as well. I was thinking of something simple like a layer of Dynamat original on the backs of the cups and maybe a layer of felt on top of that. I already took out all of the cotton.

Another mod I forgot to also mention is buying different earpads. The AKG ones (at least mine) are stiff and easily get my ears to start sweating.

Just got a hand of K340 for a week, and I love it.
Especially, the vocals... almost ethereal...

Paired to a custom diy EF92 driver tube + 6DJ8 power tube + RCA tube rectifier using a lot of oil caps (some are big one like Siemens NOS), and couple of choke.

For source, diyMod ipod video 5.5G 80gb using DIY dock to RCA with BG 47uF caps to my tubeamp.

It beats my Sennheiser HD600 with equinox cable at mid-high area... WOW!
And I paid K340 more than half than HD600+equinox.

Made me thinking of selling HD600+equinox if only K340 can have a bit more low-end & punch.

Elastics are already replaced by myself.
KT88 pleather pads are on the way...

What damping mod do you suggest to add more low-end & punch without sacrificing the mid?

Glad to be K340 owner...
Maybe the only K340 owner in Indonesia...

That was the single area that let the 340s down for me, the low end.
I don't think any modding will bring them to the level of bass response, of modern headphones.
Still filling in the cups did tighten the overall sound and appear to add punch for me...easy mod to complete and adjust.

The best idea is to have another pair of phones that have authority <50Hz and appreciate the K340s for what they are...possibly the headphones with the most satisfying mids out there.

Yup, I'm already doing that.
HD600+equinox for more fuller sound with bass authority.
K340 for pure magical mid-high enjoyment.

Does anyone have some experience with a Yarland P100 amp driving the AKG 340 please? If not, does anyone have an opinion how the amp would fare with the phones please?

Yes, I tried the Yarland with the AKG K340's when I had them both - very nice combo.

That was my main reason to sell them. I got lost in the echo.

Thanks for the feedback and on that, I will now make the effort to take my 340, which has been nicely packed away for some years now since I couldn't find an amp that could drive it well, to audition a Yarland P100 (2008) that is available in one of the local shops.

Meanwhile, Skylab, and maybe others, what other amps (circa USD 600) would you recommend that I should also consider to pair with the 340 please?

Regards.

It also worked very well for me from the Ming-Da MC84C-07.

I recommend a decent quality 20 watts or greater speaker amp. The 340s sounded their best out of my RWA sig 30 or my Fisher kx100 integrated tube amp.

I'm surprised at people saying thier 340's are bass light. I must have a bass heavy pair.. mine have great gobs of bass, and it goes low too.. I've just been listening to the Chemical Brothers Brotherhood CD2 - Electronic Battle Weapons 1-10 ("under the Influence" is effing amazing) and there's more bass than any other headphone I have, by a large margin. Not Tight snappy bass, its a bit warm, but there's a LOt of it.. and no resonance I can discern. Only "mods" I've done was puff up the cotton wool and put it back in, and the KT88 Pads ( I think the seal the pads affords is crucial , lifting the pads just enough to lose the seal gives a dramatic drop in bass)

Well my K340 are certainly NOT! bass light, then and again these headphones are revealing, depending on what equipment you use on them. I find my K340s to be very musical with speed and scale.

Anyway, where in the UK can I send my K340 for a full modification? And where on the K340 is the serial number?
