The t-500 most definitely affected the sound to the negative, the mids were a little recessed (only a little compared to the stock tips, still sounds great) and the highs lost a little of their sparkle, possibly due to the length of the tips.

The ts-500 as pictured below are shorter and to my ears don't interfere with the sound compared to the stock silicon tips, they just provide a great seal and are very comfortable for longer sessions.

The ts model is the way to go on comply, as they don't have any foam hangover that can block sound. I didn't have them to try then but do like them with the 1+2. TS500 large are very large, so keep that in mind when choosing a size.

My curiosity is why AKG supplied 6 pairs of 3 sizes of extremely durable eartips when they could have included 3 pairs of one type and 3 of another (e.g. foam or multi-flange).

People tend to lose tips quickly.  So they supplied an additional pair just in case (this is under the assumption that the tips are, in fact, the same).  There are other companies that do this as well.

just got back from hearing these and the ie800. after trying several high end universals I've found one that gets it right for me. now I've gotta source the version without the remote.

won't comment on the ie800 coz I couldn't get a good fit with it.

got my new pair of AKG 3003 !...trying to settle to the new sounds , which is impressing me by the minute..
just one thing..my ears hurt because of the steel, and weight of the iem, gives a feeling its going to drop out of my ears..
ive ordered a triple flange tip from meelectronics..but the only size available was large....hope i can sustain the listening experience for longer without the discomfort and formulate my impressions of them!

The problem could very well be that you're trying to shove them too deep into your ears. I recommend the stock tips with a somewhat (but not too) shallow insert for best possible fit and SQ, and trust me, they won't fall out. I find the Meelectronics triple flange tips to be uncomfortable and to change the sound signature and not for the better. Also, I find no advantages or real disadvantages with the Comply TS-500 except the inconvenience of having to roll them between my fingers before insertion.

I haven't heard the 1+2 on my rig, but have heard it and it's fantastic. It you're looking for balance and accuracy though, I find the K3003 to take the slight edge. This is my opinion on my rig which is inferior to the system I heard the tralucent with; but it's a matter of synergy.

Synergy does matter, I agree. But, what surprises me is the polar impressions on the AKGs..
Wonder how an iem can sound so disjointed and incoherent to some ears and not even be an issue to others'.
is it a batch issue , i wonder ...like the EX1000
Almost, like a consensus is not coming out on the worthiness of the AKGs, and is solely left upon
personal trial n error. Which to me, is not the case with other iems I read about over here and later purchased to
experience the validity of all the mighty 'supremus' impressions...

The words on this forum is essential for buyers like me, who dont have easy access to audition and try expensive iems ...

I don't think so! My first (loaner) pair had serial number 180 (something) and my own second pair have serial number several thousand something. When I made the switch I compared them and heard no difference what so ever, nil. It's been claimed the signature has changed from serial number 2000 (or so), but I think it's a cuffer.
