Alright, I'll try to get one tomorrow.
Regular-condition Sextetts seem to be going for up to $120-130 here on Head-Fi, and I've seen recabled/refurbished ones that sold for $200.
I can't say I've experienced the full Sextett magic, seeing as I've only heard one working driver, but I have to ask: are they really worth more than 100 dollars for the sound alone; i.e. are they overhyped? The one driver I heard, I'd describe as fun, not high-end or anything like that; based on this experience I wouldn't rate them technically higher than the K 501 for instance – which go for about the same price, right?
Well, no one I know has one. Most of my friends are female so it's not too surprising I guess. I could buy one for 10 euros or so, but I don't think I would use it for anything else, so it's hard to justify the cost. Still, it would be interesting to find out where the problem is.
Seller would, as compensation, be willing to sell another pair of Sextetts with broken pads and no AKG plates for $50 including the same cheap shipping, but I feel it's not a good deal. I'd have to spend more money and they could break as well. Trying to sort out a refund of some reasonable sort. He is willing to compensate, which is a positive thing.
Last week I bought a pair of K 141 vintage silvers, which should have the Sextett drivers minus radiators as far as I know, so hopefully that trade goes a bit better and I end up with some sort of working Sextett sound.
