Big can, big soundstage. As for the latter, the mids are not "scooped" as a lot of people say, there is a nice bass and treble hump as opposed to scooping out the mids. The mids are there but the treble and bass are brought a little forward giving it a meatier sound. It beats cheating and getting DT880's and turning the bass EQ up.

If you look at my profile, you'll see that I only listen to electric guitar. I try to stay open minded about headphones in general, but if it doesn't reproduce guitar well, either electric, or acoustic well enough without either becoming sibilant or drowning me in artificial bass, I'll usually dismiss it.

Don't take my word for it, there have been countless threads if you google DT880 vs DT990 vs etc.

Back when I wanted the HD600's, I bought the HD580 because of one of those threads because it was NEARLY as good as the DT880/990.... 300 dollars was a lot then and it still is for me, but I hold Beyer in high regard despite never owning one. I've spent quite a few 2-3 hour listening sessions with them and it makes me smile to think that Beyerdynamic never had to make a 500 dollar headphone to compete with everybody else's 500 dollar headphone.

If you don't mind a phone call with a stranger, call HeadRoom. They have some of the best audio consultants there who have helped me out time and time again. TTVJ's website is very quick and informative too, never spoke with them though since I assume Todd is a busy guy.

So for now I finished with Beyerdynamic DT990 PRO (money saver). This I a short comparison:

Soundstage:

AKG k240 mkII - spherical 360°, spatial, just magic very pleasant experience, I love it!
Beyerdynamic DT990 PRO - music scene in front, reminds a set of speakers, fairly wide, nothing special in comparison to AKG

AKG win

Bass:

k240 mkII - no subass, tile, simply integrated into music, drums do not have enough energy

DT990 PRO - nice (sub)bass I can not say that it's too much (so it makes me basshead?), well controlled

Beyerdynamic win

Mid:

k240 mkII - all I can say, AKG mid

990 - I want AKG mid

AKG win

Treble:

AKG - shallow, I like bit more exposed, never annoying

Beyerdynamic - as exposed as bass, could be less exposed, sometime annoying

In my taste draw with an indication of DT990 PRO (my taste)

Comfort:

Beyerdynamic is a vice trying to crush my head, to much pressure, after 1-2 hours uncomfortable

AKG have fantastic comfort! win

Build quality:

Draw with an indication of AKG k240 mkII, Beyerdynamic headphone pads do not look to durable, probably fall apart quickly.

General:

DT990 PRO are musical and AKG analytical. I would like to combine bass and treble of DT990PRO with comfort, mid and soundstage of AKG

DT990 PRO had their chance and now they are sold. Not a real competitor to AKG sound. To bassy, to fun sounding and soundstage with comfort :/

I think my "way" just finished with AKG k702, I'm waiting for delivery....so excited!

In regards to the K702, you'll need at least 100 hours of burn-in for the sound to really open up as it may sound a bit bright and lean out of the box.  That is if you're a believer of such things.  Congrats on your latest purchase by the way.

If you don't mind trying used headphones, the K240 Sextetts might suit you, especially if you can find an early or middle production model. I had a late production model, with the least bass of all the Sextett versions, yet it still had slightly more impact than the K601 (it didn't go as deep though). Treble resolution seemed as good as the K601, though I found it to have a bit of a "metallic" kind of sound, which wasn't to my preference. Mid range was good, possibly a little clearer than the K601, though it may have had something to do with the presentation being more upfront than the K601.

I have now a DT 990 Pro with the exact same problem :( It feels so heavy and the metal plate on top of the headband is very noticeable through the cushion.

So the AKG is very comfortable compared to a beyerdynamic? I'm thinking about maybe a AKG K242HD, this should be kinda the same as a 240 comfort-wise right? :P

I find the K240 to be quite comfortable, though its pleather earpads can get a bit warm around the ears.  I imagine that won't be issue with the K242HD's velour earpads.

AKG is in different comfort league and sound, if you looking for more comfortable "sound version" of dt990 you may not like AKG sound. I was fatigue by DT990 sound, never by AKG.

Weird.  By all your descriptions, it doesn't seem like you would like the K701, everyone told you not to get the K701, you did anyways, and then you liked them.   Yowzers

I do not like them it is more like I am falling in love

I was thinking about writing short cooperation to DT990 PRO, but they are in different league so it will be not fair. They sound change noticeably after approximately 30 hours of listening, I wonder if there will be further changes.

Hah!  A mere 30 hours you say?  Your K702 is just getting warmed up!  Just wait till you hear what it sounds like after the 1000 hour mark.
