I just saw that the a-JAYS are a bit cheaper than I got the impression of, so I've changed my summary to "good for the price". Also made a few clarifications on the sound quality part. They are still a bit bass heavy for my taste, though.

I haven't heard much of the sparkly highs you are talking about, but as I said in my review, I find them decent or even good for the price. Very good is definitely overstating it in my book, but I guess we can just agree to disagree here. I hope that the people who have bought them are happy...

I've had them burning in for at least 20 hours, so I strongly doubt that it's due to that. There might have been a slight improvement over the hours, but I still wouldn't say that the phones are neutral or especially remarkable in sound quality. It could just be that we prefer a different sound...

I've worn my K601 and K701 (one at a time though) for 6-8 hours without any discomfort what so ever, they are without a doubt the most comfortable cans I've ever tried, with reservation for the fact that beyerdynamic isn't in that group. I have a fairly large head, 7 3/4 or above that (62 cm).

Mine has it on both sides, serial 39xx. It's there on my K601:s too, but not as clear.

I haven't tried SR60 or KSC75, but they are to my ears more detailed and refined than for example MS-1, which isn't strange, since they are rock-ish.

I also have K27i, they are fairly nice little cans. They feel a bit like they might break, but has worked so far for me. The sound is better than decent, and the isolation isn't all bad, so I agree with you on this one Malfunkt.
