closed/ noise cancelling headphones for airplane?

I guess I am in the minority here (with apbarboza). I felt my ER-4Ps did a rather poor job at isolating airplane noise... and yes I had them inserted properly. I am going to add the HD-280 to the stable and give'em a try.

    Sony: v6 & v7506 the same?

Have them both... bought the 7506 about 5 years ago, made in Japan, bought the V6 in Dec. 2006, made in China. They sound identical to me.

    IEM Replacement List

Nope, I actually got the silicone tips: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/cont...goryNavigation But if you want foamies, it's probably these: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/cont...goryNavigation I would check if they fit though, since i have NOT used replacement foamies.

    IEM Replacement List

Yes the Shure E2 tips are a vast improvement in comfort vs. stock for Marshmallows. I think the exact name was Shure Super (or Extra??) Soft Flex tips. Got them from bhphotovideo.com. For your different ear scanal size problem, you might want to consider getting 2 pairs in different sizes...

    IEM Replacement List

Have the ER-4P, ER-6, Marshmallows. Replaced the tips on my ER-4Ps with the Shure E1/E3/E5 tips. Replaced the tips on the Marshmallows with Shure E2 tips. The Shure E2 tips have a much bigger "hole" than the E1/E3/E5. I left the ER-6 stock since they are comfortable, but the Shure E2 tips would...

    Accuracy: ER6's Superiority over ER4P?

I have them both. To me, the ER-4P sounds more refined, more detailed. It's also overall better built - for example the cables are 4x thicker than E-6's, and quite stiff. On the other hand, the tube where you attach the tips is metal for E-6, plastic for ER-4P. You get more filters, tri-flanges...

    Open vs Closed???

It also depends on what you plan to use them for. To me, closed cans sound better with movies or pop music than open cans.

Zen MicroPhoto: Need help moving or compiling ripped albums

A way to do this would be to go to the individual tracks in the Zen Media Explorer, right click, select Edit Track Properties, and in the little pop-up window enter the information that you need. When you are done with all the changes, close the application, and wait a few seconds for the player...

    Koss PortaPro - very uncomfortable

I also find the Portapros to be the most comfortable I have used. Have you tried to adjust the lateral pressure to "light"? The Sportapros have fewer sticking parts (actually they have fewer parts, period), but if I remeber correctly, at least initially, with new Sportapros, the lateral...

    Grado 225, AKG 501, or Senn 580

I second jpelg's opinion. I own both the AKG501's and the HD600's. While the 501's are phenomenal with bass-light classical music, they might not have enough impact for rock music. The HD600's themselves IMO are not that great for rock music, but probably better than the 501's. Can't comment on...

Looking for a headphone with these properties.

quote: ----------- I had, and didn't care for, the HD580. I thought it lacked energy and kick. I kept wanting to raise the volume, to feel the sound in my gut, but even ear-blasting levels didn't "pull me in". I think the HD600 will be too polite, too reserved, and not visceral enough. I don't...

Looking for a headphone with these properties.

I am surprised nobody mentioned the HD-600s. I do not own the KSC-35s, but I own the Porta-Pros and the HD-600s, and I found their sound signature to be quite similar (with the Pro's lateral pressure set on "Light" to attenuate the mid-bass a bit). Of course, the HD-600s have a lot more detail...

250$ mini chains, what's good or wrong?

There are $250 shelf systems that are OK. You are comparing though the price of an OK shelf system with the price of VERY good headphones. A "cheap" BMW motorcycle (or Harley) can still cost more than many cars.

Upgrade cans for classical and Jazz???

I own the 7506's, and, IMO, jazz and classical are their weakest points by far, bordering unlisteneable. As JMT pointed out, it might be tough to get phones that don't leak, have wide soundstage, and cost less than $100... Don't know about the Senns 280's and the Beyers, haven't heard them yet...

New Beyers for me to play with - 331, 531

You are welcome. Yeah, they have pretty good deals for some headphones (Beyers), not so good for others (Senns, Sonys). They are also the number 1 pro-dealer for photography and other things, and I've bought from them many times and never had a problem.

Check bhphotovideo.com, they sell the 531s, and I am pretty sure they ship to Canada.

New Member of the HD600 Club

Just got my HD-600s today. Bought them from Ebay, they sold for $219 + $10 shipping. The seller was hififorless.com, and they also offered a free 2-day air shipping upgrade. I got the headphones before the charge even appeared on my credit card - they moved that fast! I did some extensive...

    Quick take: HD-600 vs. K501 vs. V-6

Well, there are some things that can be measured (and for the rest there is Mastercard - sorry, couldn't resist). I believe that the presence of a sound at a certain frequency can be measured. That's why you see for speakers measurements such as 50 Hz - 20 KHz +/- 3 db. While in no way the only...

    Quick take: HD-600 vs. K501 vs. V-6

Well, when there is an argument like this, we should let measuring instruments decide - they should be objective, right? And I remeber seeing some charts where the AKG K-501's bass response drops like a rock below 60 Hz or so (maybe MacDEF did those charts? I forget). Even kwkarth admits to...

    Quick take: HD-600 vs. K501 vs. V-6

Thanks MacDEF . Gloco, I also keep my Yamaha around 9, it has no problem driving the 501s. I think the 501s sound significanlty better trough the receiver than trough the D25-s. Joe, the Headmaster is a beautiful piece. It should do justice to the 501s more than my equipment does. I have...

    Quick take: HD-600 vs. K501 vs. V-6

I own the AKG K501s and the Sony MDR 7506 (same as V6). Until a few days ago I had not heard the HD-600s. Well, after close to 3 years on the job (!), I found that one of my colleagues has an interest in headphones, and he owns the HD-600s. Sure enough, we set up a quick comparison. Since this...

    KSC35 verus V6... Koss wins

Actually there was a poll a few months ago, here in this forum, and the V6/7506 won over the KSC-35s. I only own the Porta Pros and the KTX-Pro (this last one was a mistake), and while I found the Porta Pros' sound more "enjoyeable", I prefer the 7506's detail and bass extension. At work, I...

Review: Sony D-25S Portable CD Player (LONG)

Well, with my 7506s and Porta Pros, I definitely don't need any extra bass. Quite the opposite, sometimes I wish I could turn the bass down a bit. But you might like more bass than me, , so you'll have to hear it yourself.
