Which T amp should I use to power Sony SS-F6000 towers?
The Lepai is probably not the optimum T amp pick. The good news is, the Sonys are fairly sensitive (89 db). That means you don't need a monster to make them work. My quick pick would be the $89 50 wpc channel t amp from Parts Express...- satkinsn

Audioengine 2, not what I expected.
Just want to add my .02 to everyone who has said placement is critical. I have two pairs of Audioengine 2s, and height is very important. They really, really need to be at ear level, or at least tilted up. Scott A.- satkinsn

Pictures of your computer rigs! Post them here!
Quote: So what are you using for software? I have a G4 myself - and think it's a great 'compact' source - but none of the modern iTunes alternatives will run on it. I *think* iTunes is bit perfect if you're using standard cd resolution files and if you have the volume cranked...- satkinsn

iPod DAC question
All - There's a spirited conversation on the following over on AK, and the more I participated in the subject the less I knew. Since a lot of folks here have dealt extensively with iPods, I'm hoping someone can help. It's been widely reported that a handful of devices -...- satkinsn

HRT iStreamer DAC video review - a true iPod/iPhone/Ipad DAC!
(reposted from correct account) OT for a moment, if I could. I'm a big fan of HRT products, and am glad they made this one. That said, for those of us who switched over the last few years to Sansa for a PMP, this is a frustrating time - there is no equivalent product to the...- satkinsn

Last-Minute Holiday Gift Ideas for Head-Fi'ers
Maybe the title isn't exactly right - this is more 'Jude's current pick of the litter' - but it's a great, aspirational read. Now a companion piece for those of us obsessed by how much audio can be had for not much? s.- satkinsn

Sansa or Zune
I have owned a pile of portable players, (including a Zune) none of which really made me happy, until the Clip. It's not beautiful and the interface is pretty ordinary. It has exactly one thing going for it: the sound is wonderful. Buy the Clip. s.- satkinsn

What Are You Listening To Right Now?
'Cosmic Suite' - Matthew Shipp Quartet. A 2008 release, this is my favorite Shipp of the last few years. He puts out a lot of albums, and this would be one of my first picks. s. -

'Euphonic Sounds' - Reginald R. Robinson This is ragtime treated as if it were something other than a museum piece. Robinson is a (relatively) young guy, playing Joplin and other ragtime composers and his own stuff. Quietly wonderful. -

Quote: I'll be trying this. Thanks! As for me... 'Whirling Mantis' - Harold O'Neal O'Neal is an interesting guy: he was a first call piano player for straight ahead jazzers in the early 2000s, but then he took a detour through full contact kick boxing. ... -

Quote: An earwig of a song. I heard it once and couldn't get it out of my head. As for me... 'Jelly Roll Morton 1926-1930.' This is the JSP set, and - as has been widely reported - the difference between it and the early 90s RCAs is...huge. (Aside from the fact... -
What Are You Listening To Right Now?
Quote: Yes. I can't think of a 'rock' album that's aged better - or still makes as much sense - as this one. It's a perfect record, without being precious. As for me, I'm reading Will Friedwald's new book: This is my book of 2010. In the first place I'm a... -

The Bad Plus Live @ The Village Vanguard Most jazz folk know this already, but if you don't, NPR has a page dedicated to jazz, and off that a page of live performances at the VV. Some artists give permission to make the live sets available as a download. This is one of them - currently... -

a small pleasure
This is far from audiophile stuff, but I'm using the analog out from my laptop to a cMoy to my K420s to listen to radio online. (I know the cMoy really isn't needed, but it just sounds *better* with it in the chain, I think.) The sound: reasonable. The music: fun. I started with last f.m... -

Your favorite $100 amp to use with an iPod?
Quote: Agreed. I got one of these a few weeks back and am very pleased. It's a brighter sound than my Total Airhead, (inherited from my son), and compliments my portables nicely. s.- satkinsn

What Are You Listening To Right Now?
Strange days. If there's one place I can kill serious time, it's a record shop. The nearest city, Syracuse NY, has a good one - one of the Sound Gardens. But the last few times I have visited there, I find myself looking for stuff they don't have - what I want these days is either... -
