Does which DAC you have really matter?
Quote: Even if units have MEASUREABLE differences, The assertion that someone (always with golden ears) can HEAR a difference (always with the more expensive unit sounding better) is laughable when they cannot simply demonstrate it.- oatmeal769

I'm one of those sellers, I used to post here all the time. Financial troubles - that's the only reason, and yeah, I guess I wanna get home for the holidays. I know I can get another one some day - or perhaps a B.A. I think I'll be negotiable on the price, I listed 1,650 because I have...- oatmeal769

Does which DAC you have really matter?
Quote: Doubt it. Post some volume-matched recordings without saying which is which. see if anyone else can hear a difference in what you think you hear. No one is saying the difference isn't there. I'm saying no one can hear it.- oatmeal769

Does which DAC you have really matter?
Don't be swayed either way. Using foobar and the AB-X comparison plug-in, you can test the theories yourself. My experience is as follows. I had a P.S. Audio level 3 mod DAC, a Tien ZERO Dac, and a Little Dot DAC 1. I made a series of high def recordings using them. I posted all the...- oatmeal769

Do 'High-End' Audio cables matter?
See for yourself. Using Foobar and the ABX comparator plug in, you can make ultra hi-def recordings with the cable as the only variable. You will not score above guessing if you do enough (at least 10-12) attempts. I have a Zana Deux, and did it with a P.S. Audio DAC, a Zero DAC, and a...- oatmeal769

I can't address your specific situation, because I haven't even plugged a cable into the USB port. I can say that via coaxial SPDIF, the 'tracking' is flawless and quick. As soon as I put signal through it, the DAC 'knows' it's there and displays the bit-rate at which it is receiving. ...- oatmeal769

UPCOMING Little Dot DAC
I've had mine for a good 6 months now. I use it almost daily for headphone movie viewing, and music. I use it as well between my PC and my home stereo but not as much. I'll stand by my original assertion that this DAC blows away anything costing 2-3 times as much. I haven't done the 'big...- oatmeal769

Petition: I would like the old site back (or other choice)
Quote: Quote: I think I've visited maybe 10 times since the new layout. I want a simple, direct, powerful board, so I can get in, do what I want, and get on with life. This layout is so dumbed down, I get nothing out of it.- oatmeal769

Zana Deux: Best or Worst for HD800?
I keep coming back to a Sylvania, of all brands... It's a 6SL7-W JAN with US Navy markings on it. The inside is completely coated with silvery getter material. The other I like is the RCA 5691 with the Red Base, which isn't very expensive either. I have a Brimar I really like, but it was twice...- oatmeal769

I haven't forgotten about the review I'm going to do, I'm just swamped at the moment. For now though I can subjectively say that this thing smokes the PS Audio DL-III which I sold to buy this - and have $600 left over... Anyone considering this may may think of it as the new giant killer. LD...- oatmeal769

Little Dot DAC vs. Zero DAC
I ended up selling my PS Audio DL-III and buying the Little-Dot unit. At some point I will do a detailed objective set of testing, etc. I'll be sure to post it here. But for now I most definitely think I made the right choice.- oatmeal769

Review: ZERO 24 BIT/192KHz DAC/Headphone Amp/Pre-Amp
The 627's are 'mono' i.e. you need two of them. The others are 'stereo' With the 627's, it comes with a 'brown dog' adapter to make it fit. You'll see it if you open it up.- oatmeal769

I think The DAC 1 and Mark III would be an outstanding start. I would think that if you order both simultaneously, you will save $40 or $50 on shipping. Ask David directly if that will work.- oatmeal769
