    today's vinyl quality?

Quote: If it stays clean **there is no groove wear or scratches** - you don't put your hands all over the grooves or let dust/hair get all over it, it will play great many times. Vinyl gets dusty/dirty eventually, so it is more of a chore than CD's, but a chore I enjoy. Clicks from static...

Looking to make the jump to vinyl

Haha I wonder how many of you "2000+ fantasticly great" TT people could tell the difference between a record played with the same (200 dollar range) cart on a nice vintage $200 turntable (both with proper vibration isolation, correct tonearm weights) I bet most would fail or get lucky. MAYBE...

Lower volume with SR225's vs. HD580's on vinyl

Hey, I cant figure this out, maybe you can. When I switch from my senn 580's to grado s225's, the grado's have significantly less volume (nothing else was touched.) I have to then turn up the preamp or the littledot tube amp im using so the grado's are as loud as senns. I thought grado's had...

what else do I need to know about vinyl/turntables?

no, move on to better records. de-warping a record is really difficult and it usually screws 'em up (clamping them between glass and heating them in the oven). You usually end up with a mess or press dirt into the heated vinyl.

what else do I need to know about vinyl/turntables?

anti-skating is really the heaviness of the arm, preventing it from flying off on a bumpy/wavy record your grado black cart is a good one, make sure the needle isnt really used. if so, its sometimes easier to buy a new cart since the needle costs almost as much. The cart and needle are what...

    need career advice

Good advice all around. One word of caution though- sometimes people float around in Community Colleges too long. They start taking various classes and get lost in all the different things local colleges have. If you choose this route, figure out a clear path after 1 or 2 semesters and follow it...

    Yankees: World Series Champions 2009!

Well the Yanks are certainly stacked with talent. The Steinbrenner family elects to put their extra $ into buying players, so they get what they pay for. Maybe now they can focus on buying some talent to look at, cuz the Yankees players are damn ugly. Oh, and my theory on A-rod is he was...

    Audio optical output adapters??

You have to get some kind of digital-to-analogue converter that converts the optical signal into regular analogue output (via a normal 1/8" miniplug or maybe a 1/4" plug) then hook the wireless headphone's transmitter into that. look for "toslink dac" or "optical dac", pay attention to the...

Watches - another passion of ours, it seems...post your pics!

I am a vintage watch fanboy as well. It is safe to say I hate the ticking sound of a quartz watch. With people doing estate and garage sales on Ebay these days, there is potential for great finds at cheap prices. I agree Ross, many modern watches (and many on this forum) are way too huge and...

Is there any way to boost the bass of my Grado sr80i's?

bowls are the best option. I recently bought some because my Donut pads (original donut kind) were rotting. The Donuts had more bass than bowls and I loved them.. wish they would make those again, but now I have to settle for taped Bowls.. cant get soundstage and bass with anything else...

Watches - another passion of ours, it seems...post your pics!

Hey, just wanted to add my little collection to the thread. I have a smaller wrist, which doesn't go well with all the gaudy and huge watches for sale these days, so vintage is for me. First pic: a blacklight shoot Modern seiko 5, 1970's rare seiko chrono midsize, bulova accutron stainless...

HD 580's with Newly discovered damage..

I bought these cans a year ago (as a returned item), just now opened them and discovered the plastic over the driver was smooshed, probably by the idiot that returned these. First of all, what is this smooshed piece exactly? Secondly, should i be concerned about it, if so how do I fix it? I have...

    My POOR POOR HD595's

Probably your best bet is to buy a new set of pads. The foam is probably close to deteriorating, plus getting that thin fabric back in place would be a huge pain, if not impossible. Go to Sennheiser.com, the pads come with the foam that covers the driver (i think its one piece).

    Vinyl guys---Back To Black Series?

Hey, I bought Thin Lizzy- Jailbreak in the Back to Black reissues from TTVJ.com. It came with the plastic covers you describe, but Unfortunately the pressing skipped badly on two songs. Todd sent me another copy, which had even worse skips (using a heavier tone arm didnt help). Maybe you will...

BMG Music Service Ends In June. No More 12 For 1

I buy used lp's and make digital copies of them or get p2p copies. None of these routes gives the artist royalties. Most artists have already faced the facts that they have to tour to get $ for their music now. Plus, the RIAA and record industry people just abuse everyone and squeeze them for...

    Snow Leopard

It doesnt seem like a steal to me, just a fair price, since its not really a new operating system. Things should be snappier since most native in-the-box apps (safari, mail, etc..) are in 64 bit. I'll wait a while to upgrade since theres lots of stuff on my menubar (thanks for the heads-up...

Searching for a Quad channel upmixer for Mac

I have been using an M-audio USB 'Sonica Theater' Box to upmix my music into Quad, as I find the Quadraphonic sounds quite nice, even if its software-emulated. I then run the 4-Channels into 2 Stereo's, then into 4 speakers. The thing is, the USB box I have wont run on Intel Macs. Can anyone...

The S.Q. on ipod classic is awful

Many people in this thread who like the Classic's SQ are using its line-out, passing the Ipod's amp. This is completely different from the OP's situation, where he uses the headphone out and therefor is hearing the Ipod's amp. I once tried the Classic (using its headphone jack) and thought...
