Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Many thanks to all that responded to my 'Selling Excess Audio Equipment' question. I got a lot of good info and feel I'm ready to get started.

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

The pre 1968 models with the black crackle dash were the best. On good original sized tires, you can drift (original definition, not what the kids do today) that car on demand and hardly break the speed limit. Lots of suspension changes needed to work properly with modern sized rubber, and not...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

I need some advice on selling some excess equipment I've accumulated. In all the years I've been in this hobby I've never sold anything, I just gave unwanted items away, and stuff I liked died a natural death or went on the shelf as Designated for Assignment. That shelf is starting to heave...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

I'm happy that I was able to snag one of the last ones in the original chassis about a year ago. If there's ever a DAC Hall of Fame, Yggy OG will get in there on the first vote.

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

I bought one of the last ones a year ago and my S/N is L6000408.

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

I had an uncle and a grandfather that ran the stuff back in the 1950’s and 60’s, and to them it was simply ‘white liquor’. They never called it moonshine. They would pick it up at various places in Wilkes County and deliver it to the (illegal) bars in Charlotte.

I believe that Kara would. It’s the best solid state preamp I have ever heard.

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

I watched a video yesterday about a vintage Honda motorcycle from their glory days when Mr. Honda was still alive. The reviewer (Ryan @ FortNine, one of the best content producers on YouTube) stated "At Honda, marketing was an engineering problem", meaning when you have great, unique products...

Friendly reminder, tonight's the night, 9pm Eastern/6pm on the Left Coast, post a comment in the YouTube or Facebook section and you are entered in a couple of sweet drawings!

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

In my opinion one of the most beautiful integrated amps ever made. I tried to get one but lost patience waiting for it and bought a Prima Luna instead.

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Recently I've been listening a lot to a Rega Elex ('R' I think), paired with a RME DAC that although very competent, wasn't something I was really smitten with. With the Rega, the RME just disappears and does its job, while the tunes rock. I'm loving the way that amp sounds.

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Freddy FedEx dropped off some toys today, so I’ve started off with them in the office rig. A couple of notes: The Gjallarhorn and Jot2 are disconnected and not in the chain. They are currently designated for assignment. Yes, I am aware of the poor cable management. No, I do not care. I will...

I am anxious to receive them, they will be part of my first monoblock rig as well. Also my first Class A(ish) speaker rig. I love my Lyr+ for headphones, so I'm confident these will be right up my street as well.

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

The Old Man and the Aegirs I'm a sucker for a deal, and I've been thinking about setting up monoblocks for my Freya pre-amp for a while, at least since @dstrimbu shared his experiences with his dual Aegir setup last summer. The Brown Wednesday email was just the catalyst I needed. So while I...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

If it’s selling, then make hay while the sun is shining. If someone brought one of these thinking it was some sort of ‘collectible’ then shame on them.

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

An important one is the direct to consumer sales model (at least in the USA) which sets off a virtuous cycle that makes many of the other attributes of the brand possible. But I‘m here for the cat pictures and cardboard jokes, buying something on occasion just to stay in the game.

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Hi, no the Rega is out of the chain, I had set it there when I started having issues with the Freya, using the preamp section only. It's just there for eye candy now.

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Freya has been let back in the house now, and returned to her pride of place: The Good News - Sound quality is fine in all stages, though the tube stage still seems a tick off for some reason. The OK News - The hum has returned, but at a much lower level than previously, barely discernable from...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Thanks, that is the racing color that Donald Healey adopted after his famous deal with Austin. He felt that the traditional darker green was unlucky, and this shade made it easier to pick out his cars when they rounded the final turn before the pits at Le Mans.

    Yes, it’s a 1960 Mk 1, what we Healey nerds call a BT7.

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

So tonight I moved the Freya out to the garage rig to do some testing. I first fired up the rig to set a baseline, then pulled the cables off of the Saga S and plugged in the Freya. I switched it on, walked to both speakers and could only hear the faintest of hiss (a product of the Class D...

The manual seems pretty clear that the tubes have to be in place.
