Depends on what you mean by decent. $200 is about the minimum for a Pro-Ject, Fluance, or U-Turn. Of course if you can justify $150 for a phono preamp, you're probably looking for more decent than those. There are lots of options above that price point, most of them are at least decent.

All that said, I run Vidars in mono mode into 4 ohm Magnepan LRS. In over a year I've only had one Vidar go into overheat protection one time.

I think the issue was manufacturing difficulties, rather than demand. I'd think doing it occasionally would only hurt their yields of successful castings. Hopefully tonearms and belts can remain available.

I'd think just a slightly bigger pulley would take care of this. There's a set screw holding the pulley to the motor, so it's easy to remove. You can 3D print one the right size and be done with it, though an aluminum (?) one would obviously be preferable.

I ordered mine from a local dealer at the end of February, finally got them mid June. Dunno if ordering direct would have been quicker.
