Seems true..3 times I sold my Nighthawks, every time I missed them. As I look back the row of phones been on my head I had some stunning affairs with lots of emotion but there was nothing so special like the hawks over the years now.

I had the first version of the sundaras. Last revision came with much better pads comparable if not the same now as the very good ones with he400i 2020. The fq graph looks much better too.

These are my adjustments in Apo Eq with shure 1540 pads, if you use stockpads you probably would like to reduce 150 and 300 hz a little bit more to -5 / -4 db depending on taste.

Since I eq my nighthawk I love them more then ever, cristal clear mids, very good extension on both ends and clearest sound without any distortion. And on top of all that magic its the most comfortable headfone out of all. ..imho

JDS Labs Atom, Topping e30, Shiit Heresy or Magni 3+ are really perfect to power them. Cleanest power for very attractive costs. No need at all to spend more soundwise.

Fantastic cans even without looking at the price! For me the 400i is the better phone compared to 4xx and Sundara. More even response, much better built, better comfort. Outstanding value!

Shure 1540 pads are highly recommended as third party pads for not loosing much of the dark and bassy character of the original nighthawk hybrid pads. I even prefer them over these and even a little bit over the the Brainwavz hm5 hybrids.
