Amp/DAC for LCD3s (I hate myself)
So I'm talking to this girl, and at some point I weirdly shifted one of our regular music convos to headphones. She was like "wait, I have a pair of pretty nice headphones actually, I forget what they're called let me go get them" and leaves to get them. I expect she's gonna come back with...- Degenerator9000

They'll loosen up pretty quickly, I've only had mine for a week-ish and the tolerances are breaking in nicely.- Degenerator9000

Why get a headphone amp?
Yehh that's why I said "The tradeoff is that you're never going to find a portable class A amp with the overall power of the O2, as they're incredibly inefficient." I guess I should have specified what I meant, but the inefficiency I'm referring to there is the heat dissipation for high power...- Degenerator9000

Why get a headphone amp?
Yeah, I actually checked the numbers before I made that comment to be sure the O2 slightly edged it out :P It gets pretty close though- Degenerator9000

Agreed w/ everything iscream In response to the m9xx comments, another thing to consider with that thing is that it's just convenient as ****. It can run straight from a USB bus, or be plugged into a wall adapter for additional power (I think it can do the same with power from an additional USB...- Degenerator9000

Why get a headphone amp?
Seconding the O2 recommendation The Magni2 Uber has more power behind it at the same price, but I like the soundstage of the O2 slightly better (based on my relatively brief 3 day trial) and the fact that it's transportable/battery operable is pretty huge as a college student. It's incredibly...- Degenerator9000

Yeah, I mean it's obviously gonna get a little different for people who have the flagship of their choice and can't really improve upon it any further, but the HE-400i being a 300 dollar headphone seems a bit far from that WRT the liquid gold and abyss... I dunno man, I just tell myself...- Degenerator9000

If I was gonna wind up dropping another 1k on an amp/DAD combo for these I'd probably just sell them and buy a nicer pair of headphones and something like an ODAC/O2 or M2U/M2U Highly skeptical of the fact that 800 additional dollars sunk into upstream components would get me better sound...- Degenerator9000

Your favourite "not the best" headphones?
DT1350s are my absolute favorite for straight out of the player. They look nice, isolate well, are conveniently tiny + could probably take more mini-nukes than my last FO4 character can afford. I love my other stuff for when I'm at home sitting in a quiet room with a bunch of wires and ****, but...- Degenerator9000

Why get a headphone amp?
Honestly, if you compared amp vs no amp and saw no difference on your phones, I'm not gonna try and sell you on the idea lmao. You've already proven that it's subjectively not worth it to you. (Obviously this might change with different headphones)- Degenerator9000

I'd feel kind of weird getting much more than a magni2u/modi2u specifically for these things, given their cost and relative efficiency. The sound you can get for 500 shipped now is ridiculous compared to when I first got into this. Really glad to see orthos taking off- Degenerator9000

The only thing I can for sure give the dt880s so far is soundstage, but the he400is take imaging and separation pretty easily. Kind of disappointing lmao. Was hoping I'd like the beyers more so I could save some money and send these back.- Degenerator9000

Just got my pair in this morning and I've been using them for about 6-8h now, looking like my DT880s are getting shelved barring some very specific cases smh- Degenerator9000

What is the best sturdy balanced IEM under $100?
I'm not sure honestly, I haven't broken mine but after I managed to destroy a pair of 535s in a couple months I've started babying everything I have. I've kinda come to the conclusion that no matter how sturdy an IEM is by IEM standards, they're still inherently fragile little ****s. For me...- Degenerator9000

Which of these 4 is the right portable for me?
I'd go with the t51p or DT1350. Not terribly different, but I like the headband more on the DT1350, it's a bit more neutral than the t51p (which has slightly more bass emphasis), and is much easier to find @ a great price used. T51p imo looks better.- Degenerator9000

What is the best sturdy balanced IEM under $100?
I've always liked head-direct/hifiman's offerings in this price range. Re400 is the current model. Not sure I can call them "sturdy," per se, but I haven't ever really thought that about iems in general.- Degenerator9000

DT 990s - onboard soundcard vs. AMP/DAC [DESTKOP USE]
Kinda depends on how likely you think you are to get really into audio stuff. Also, how many ohms are your 990s? The schiit magni2/modi2 are a very nice dac/amp pair that could drive most anything you'd want to in the future for ~200 bucks. If you're thinking you're gonna want harder to drive...- Degenerator9000

The FiiO X3 2nd gen (ex X3K, X3II) Thread : 192K/24B, CS4398,Native DSD, USB DAC with LO and inline remote
I think I found out why my device was having issues on my laptop. Both my ports are USB 3.0,and it looks like USB 3.0 is supported under some kind of specific circumstances that I didn't meet w/ my win10 install. After messing around some in the settings I was able to pull off legacy recognition...- Degenerator9000
