AKG K812 Pro
That was my impression, too, when I had the K812. Nonetheless, the HD800 has some weak points, too: It doesn't look good, in my view, it is not suited for walking around, you will need an extra cable (a shorter one) if you want to use it with a mobile device, you may need an amp to exploit its...- Rafu64

iFi iDSD Micro DSD512 / PCM768 DAC and Headphone Amp. Impressions, Reviews and Comments.
Same for me. Normal mode 12 o'clock for normal listening. However, the HD800 sounds great with turbo mode, too.- Rafu64

Firmware upgrade shows wrong version
After successfully upgrading from firmware v4.04 to v4.06 the driver program tells me that the actual firmware of the device would be v4.02. I have tried it several times always using the file "idsdv4.06.bin" from ifi audios website. Always the same result. Very strange. Has anyone made the same...- Rafu64

iFi iDSD Micro DSD512 / PCM768 DAC and Headphone Amp. Impressions, Reviews and Comments.
I have a question regarding the use of IFi Micro with a computer. Does the iFi Micro "bypass" the onboard soundcard when playing DSD-files or do I need a special soundcard which is capable of playing dsd-files? I have read a lot of reviews but I am not quite sure how the iFi Micro works...- Rafu64

AKG K812 Pro
Not to forget quality issues. We assume that all headphones from the same manufacturer sound identically. That may be true in general, but obviously, there are exceptions. Sennheiser for example provides Certificates for Frequency Response for each single HD800 headphone they make. I guess that...- Rafu64

Forza AudioWorks Impressions Thread
Received my Noir HPC Mk2 Custom cable with 3,5mm jack for my Sennheiser HD800 today. Shipping time was fast. The cable looks very nice indeed and seems to be high quality. Sound is great. I am not sure, however, wether the difference is that big in contrast to the stock cable. I am talking about...- Rafu64

AKG K812 Pro
No, I haven't checked it with another player or amp. It is possible that my K812 was faulty. I bought it for a reduced price because it has been returned by another customer.- Rafu64

AKG K812 Pro
Congratulations. I must admit that I just gave my K812 back and returned to the HD800. The reason was that my K812 produced some annoying sibilants with some songs (e.g. Rolling in the deep from Adele). I have the impression that this is mainly due to the recording material. However, the K812...- Rafu64

The New iRiver/Astell & Kern AK100: A High-End DAP
I used the program guiformat x64 on my sandisk 128GB micro SD card. It just works fine in the AK100MkII and gives me at least 119 GB after formatting.- Rafu64

The New iRiver/Astell & Kern AK100: A High-End DAP
I tried the HD800 direct from the AK100MkII which has an even higher impedance than the HD700. Worked like a charm without amp. But, you'll have to switch the cables of the Sennheiser. If you use the stock cable with an adapter for the 3,5mm jack this construction becomes too long. It's too...- Rafu64

high-end frequencies 10-20k hz
How can you exclude that there might be another way for the brain of receiving this information? We know of the effects UV-light has although we're unable to see it. Anyway, I don't want to speculate. I am not a neuro-scientist and cannot seriously debate these questions. But, I have listened to...- Rafu64

AKG K812 Pro
With "bad" CD recordings I meant mostly pop/rock music CDs produced after 1995. Many recording studios which make the CDs strip the music from dynamics, compress it and bring it to a constant sound level. The result is that a lot of pop/rock music from todays CDs is somehow like "tinned food"...- Rafu64

AKG K812 Pro
Depends. If you only listen to mp3 or bad CD recordings, the K812 would probably be "overkill". If you have the chance to listen to uncompressed high resolution audio music then the K812 would be pretty perfect. In my opinion, the K812 is at present the best full size headphone on the market for...- Rafu64

high-end frequencies 10-20k hz
No, it is not show. There are a number of reasons why high frequencies do matter. There is an article in German language which explains it very well. http://www.aktives-hoeren.de/downloads/Grenzen_der_DT_Rohfassung300708.pdf I can't translate it but if you take a look at the two graphs on...- Rafu64

AKG K812 Pro
The review should say at what level of loudness the auditioning has been done. Otherwise, it is not really possible to judge a review. I normally listen to music at a low volume. Above 80db there is a real danger of damaging the hearing capacity. Distortions > 100db are completely irrelevant...- Rafu64

AKG K812 Pro
Got my AKG K812 pro 2 days ago. I am using it without amp right from my AK100Mk2. Although I probably cannot get the full potential out of it without amp I am pretty impressed. First impression is that the K812 wins agains all other headphones I have auditioned so far. Not in every aspect and...- Rafu64

Firefox 30 keeps crashing when opening Head-fi.org
Had the same problem. Apparently, this was caused by a filter list from an extension I used in FF. I have changed the filter abonnement and the problem disappeared. Although the extension caused the freezing of FF the underlying source seems to be some aggressive advertisement used on Head-fi.- Rafu64

Beyer Dynamic T70 - Barely a Beyer? (Review)
Another advantage of the t70 is that these seem quite robust. I agree that they are one of the best headphones for portable use. Have you tried the t5p or the Ultrasone Signature pro? The t5p might beat the t70 but it is a different price league, too.- Rafu64

Beyer Dynamic T70 - Barely a Beyer? (Review)
Haven't found my "ideal" headphones yet. Because I mostly listen at home I think I will opt for open or semi-open headphones. For the time being, I have the audio technica ATH AD2000x which have a phenomenal soundstage especially for classical music. Although they don't have quite the resolution...- Rafu64

Beyer Dynamic T70 - Barely a Beyer? (Review)
I had the T70p for a while and liked it very much. Easy to drive and the resolution was the best I have heard so far. But, unfortunately, is has a box-like tonality. The vocals in some songs sound metallic and unnatural. Try to listen to "Come to sin" from Bananafishbones with the T70p and...- Rafu64

Choice between Beyer T90 and Shure 1840 (mainly for classical music)
Well, I had the SRH-1840 for some days. I can confirm that they are a bit high. When listening with them to some songs from singers like Sarah Brightman who naturally sings with a high voice the sound impression sems a bit unnatural. I wouln't have guessed it from the frequency chart above but...- Rafu64

Looking for headphone for classical music between $250-$1000
I have the same problem. Haven't found a headphone under 1000 $ for classical music yet. I have tested the AKG 712pro for several days. To my impression it was lacking of clarity and/or resolution. The effect is not that obvious with classical music but when comparing it to other headphones the...- Rafu64

Upgrade from Beyerdynamic T70p
I use the AK100 MKII as DAC. Normally, I listen to the music at low or moderate levels of loudness. So I don't need a HP with extra bass. A good resolution, clarity and neutral tonality would be ideal. As to the comfort, I prefer an open or a semi open HP. The AKG K812 pro and HD800 both seem to...- Rafu64

Upgrade from Beyerdynamic T70p
Thanks, I have taken these already into consideration. I have tried so far 3 different beyerdynamics (DT880, t70p and t51p). I am not so convinced with the tonality of beyerdynamics closed HPs. In contrast to that, I found the DT880 a convenient HP with an overall pleasant listening experience...- Rafu64
