    Vista + Realtek HD Audio AL888 + SP/DIF

Just got my new PC in, running Vista 64 SP1. The PC has a built in Realtek HD Audio chip, with SPDIF. The output works, and sounds pretty good (Was using the SPDIF on an Envy24 card in the old PC), BUT the card doesn't output a continuous signal. When the PC generates a sound (like a rollover...

DT 880 cheap on Amazon right now...

Hehe. Runnign through 'Wish You Were Here' right now, which is one of my benchmark sound albums. Very good texture. I might actually end up leaving these here at the house and taking the Denons to the office...decisions decisions.

DT 880 cheap on Amazon right now...

Well, I got my pair right after work today (1 day shipping is nice...) and I have to say I really like them. Extremly comfortable (not *quite* as comfy as my D2000s, but that's a high bar indeed.) My initial, no-break in impression of the sound is that it is a very good compromise between the...

DT 880 cheap on Amazon right now...

Mainly a comfort thing. The 225s are just not great to wear for hours straight, day after day. Espescially now that the D2000s I have at home have me throughly spoiled.

Little Dot Mk IV SE Tube Rolling

I've been thinking about this too. Got about 300 hours on my stock tubes for now, so I'm thinking of maybe getting a new set. Not looking to drop a lot of coin, $20 per tube or so is about my limit. No real complaints about the stock tubes per say, but want to get a nice set in for daily use...

    Unimpressed by D2000...is something wrong?

I've found that only in the last week or two have I really started to love mine, after owning them about 2 months. Definite extended break in period on them.

    Zappa fans.

Try You Can't Do That On Stage Vol 2: The Helsinki Concert. Great late 70s live Zappa.

    Denon D2/5000 descriptions at Headroom

Oh, I agree. I'm listening to my D2000's right now in fact. As of right now, if forced to pick one only, I'd go with my K&01's, but it's quite close. Denons actually get more headtime because of comfort, but the 701s are just a bit more articulate.

    Denon D2/5000 descriptions at Headroom

Urg, don't tempt me. Don't want to think about the wallet hit for recabled D5000s .

    Denon D2/5000 descriptions at Headroom

I like my D2000's a lot. Well worth the money. I run them side by side with K701s. Generally, I use the D200s when listening to harder rock, electronica, anything of that nature. K701s get head time when listening to anything acoustic, symphonic, etc. Both are very good phones though. The one...

    Review of Little-Dot MKIVse

To add a new datapoint: MKIVse works well with D2000! (Note: D2K is only 26Ohm impedance, so actually slightly outside of rated range). Got my D2000 today. Compared to some other sources I have lying around (e.g. headphone jack on my H/T receiver), the MKIVse not only drives the D2K...

    0.6W resistors OK?

Won't hurt anything. They're just (potentially) a bit larger physically.

    Audiophile Linux software

I'm using amarok. CDs ripped with Sound Juicer to -q 9 Ogg Vorbis (around 300kbs). ALSA should treat the sound ok. I'm having to use dmix (kinda like kmixer in Windows) because my soundcard doesn't do hardware mixing, but unlike kmixer, I can force dmix to run at 44100, so there's no sample rate...

HUGE DENON D2000 SALE $209 Shipped!!!

I am looking forward to them. Probably get 'em Monday or Tuesday. Should be a nice compliment to my K701. I've been wanting something a bit bassier/more 'fun' for rock listening. The K701 are great for a lot of stuff, but not so much for rock. Got a pair of Grado SR225 but the comfort factor...

    Review of Little-Dot MKIVse

Hate to be the bringer of bad news, but it looks like the run of the MKIVse may be over. Here's an e-mail replay I just got from David over @ LD. Quote: Hello Tyler, Ah that's excellent news! I'm happy to hear your Little Dot MK IV SE is finally in your hands and that you are so...

    Review of Little-Dot MKIVse

I was slightly surprised. I was expecting good size, but it was maybe 20-25% larger than expected. Btw, after about 2 hours of listening: I'm in love. This has done exactly whatI was hoping for. My K701s are still very "reference" sounding and detailed, but they've mutated into some seriously...

    Review of Little-Dot MKIVse

Just got my IVse home from the post office and rigged up. Not going to post any impressions yet as I've A: Only been listening about 5 minutes and B: It isn't burned in yet. But my unit has arrived, it glows properly, it makes noise... (Ok I lied, I will share one impression: K701 has...

    Great Debut Albums

Warren Zevon's first album is extremely good. Not a weak song on it. The follow-up Exciteable Boy had a few strongs that were stronger/more known (the title track, Werewolves of London, Lawyers, Guns, and Money, Roland the Headless Thompson Gunner) but also had some filler. Oh, and zombie...

    Review of Little-Dot MKIVse

Might want to consider an outboard DAC. PC audio tends to be less than stellar (and Creative isn't really audiophile grade stuff either). I'm going to be using the DAC section of my Zero to drive mine.
  24. TylerEaves

    Why Amplify?

Because an iPod is designed to power small earbuds. Trying to drive proper audiophile grade headphones with it directly makes about as much sense as sticking a lawnmower engine in a sportscar...not enough power for the job at hand.

    Review of Little-Dot MKIVse

Well, I just pulled the trigger on my mkIVse Thanks to this thread (and especially penchum, via PM) for guiding me to this unit Couldn't believe the service I got ordering this. Total time from first contact to confirmation of payment was under 2 hours, despite it being something like...
