I don't know if it's faulty, but best to try certified AptX devices out, and it's safe to say if they all fail, something could be wrong, and that could be in the software/firmware realm as well. So maybe update firmware, or reset your phone. Would be a good start.

I would use a shallow bath (only a few mm) of isopropyl alcohol, 90% pure. (add a bit of water to pure iso), to clear the nozzles. It's not as caustic, and it will clear the wax for you. Shake out any fluid that left in the nozzle. An injection swab would also do the trick, and should be safer...

I think it's a good idea to reverse the polarity at the 3.5mm plug and not at the pins, it's easier to solder the plug than the pins. It avoids damaging the cable, and if you don't have the tools/skills, pay someone to do it. It's a great cable.
