Android phones and USB DACs
In the chance that this is helpful to anyone here or finding this thread through Google, I thought I would post my experience trying to get Android USB audio to work with a home dac. I had a pre-existing setup including a DAC (Audio-gd NFB-28) and a USB to SPDIF converter (PCM2704-based...- Mik

Audio-gd Phoenix balanced headphone amp.
Quote: Being a total novice, it's probably best if I don't attempt the soldering myself then. Kingwa is trying to work out something for me now to get the capacitors replaced. Very nice of you and others to assist with the repairs. It's kind of funny since Kingwa is halfway...- Mik

Audio-gd Phoenix balanced headphone amp.
In case anyone else gets this problem later, I may as well post about how the diagnosing/repairs go. Kingwa told me to solder two points together with wire for each channel. Luckily I still had a soldering iron, solder, and a bit of wire from 10 years ago used only once. I managed to solder...- Mik

Audio-gd Phoenix balanced headphone amp.
I hear the relays clicking when changing inputs. It sounds the same as when I change the volume. With the preamp button off, the blue light above the preamp button is still on, but not as bright as when the button is pressed.- Mik

Audio-gd Phoenix balanced headphone amp.
It switches in the sense that the display shows it changing inputs, but it's not clear if it's actually switching inputs. When I turn it off and turn it on again, it doesn't always remember which input I set it it to. None of the inputs seem to work anyway. Shipping this back to China for...- Mik

Audio-gd Phoenix balanced headphone amp.
I have one of the first batch of Phoenix preamps and just today have experienced some major problems. When I turned it on today I wasn't getting any sound using any input/output combination. After playing around with it for 5 minutes it finally kicked in and worked for a while. After playing...- Mik

Audio-GD Reference 7 - the new flagship DAC
Ref1 with an input selector and I'm sold. I was already considering buying a second Ref1 for my second system. Looks like I'll move my old one up there and buy this instead. I notice there's a C3MK3 on the Chinese page too. Without being able to read Chinese, it looks like the C3SE with a...- Mik

Beyerdynamic to launch new top headphone at IFA -- called T1
Thanks for your early impressions Skylab. Any early comments on similarities/differences to your VXD4? That would help me out since I remember exactly how those sounded. I'm considering selling a few things and getting a T1. Also, does anyone know the best place to buy a T1 in Canada?- Mik

Audio-gd Phoenix balanced headphone amp.
I haven't posted here in a while so I'll give a little update. I'm still totally pleased with the Phoenix. It's really excellent as a preamp. It doesn't do any favours for bad recordings, but well-engineered music sounds perfect together with the Ref1. I am listening to some 24/96 Miles Davis...- Mik

portable, closed, cheap, COMFY, decent SQ, limited choices eh?
I was looking for good portable closed phones for some time as well. After trying many, I eventually settled on Sony MDR-7506 and put some Beyer DT250 pads on them. I mainly use them when traveling on planes, trains, and buses and they are ideal for that purpose. Good isolation, comfort (with...- Mik

Any Audio-gd owners also have a C1 or C10 speaker amplifier? I'm considering trying a C10 and wanted to hear impressions from someone. Please send me a pm if you have an Audio-gd amp. Thanks.- Mik

REVIEW: JMoney Audio Genuine Leather earpads for Beyer DT770/880/990
Compared the JMoney pads to the leather Beyer pads on my Headphile V4 Beyers and I prefer the Beyer pads at least on the V4. I find some life gets sucked out of the music with the JMoney pads on my V4, which defeats the point of Larry's mods. I suspect they are well-suited for my DT880 though...- Mik

Audio-gd Reference 1 DAC (56 K warning)
Everything sounds more right on the Ref1, but orchestral music sounds much more authentic on the Ref1 than my Cambridge 840C (when used as a dac). The Ref1 is also faster in low frequencies in particular, such that they decay faster. Reverb also has less of a ringing effect, which makes it more...- Mik

Audio-gd Reference 1 DAC (56 K warning)
As I understand it, the Ref3 isn't a DAC at all. It upsamples and reclocks digital audio from various digital inputs and outputs again in digital. It's closer to a transport than a DAC. I think it might use some of the same components as the CD7 transport only for getting audio from a computer...- Mik

I'm happy with the Monitor, yes. It replaced a Trends UD-10.1 for me. Between the Bel Canto and the Monitor I don't know whether there will be much of a difference in sound quality. I have heard significant differences in usb audio quality in the past however. My Trends and Monitor both sound...- Mik
