    Best Active Speakers

Agree 1000% The real Genelecs would fit your requirements perfectly, but are out of your price range. Maybe try to find a pair of used Genelecs since there project studios are always getting shut down these days. I do have to point out that I am basing this opinion on many many hours of...

HIFIdiy's mini USB DAC MK2--Also a headphone amp!

Yes. You can always use power supplies with extra amperage. It is the same idea as using a 100w amp with speakers that have a max rating of 70w. The overhead is there to keep things clean and avoid voltage drops due to the component maxing out the amperage that the power supply can provide. You...

Show us your Head-Fi station at it's current state. No old pictures please...

Make sure to listen to a lot of different amps with those Zu speakers. They are very picky about their power source.

My mistake. I was picturing one of these with the pickups swapped out: Nice guitar either way.

    Calling All "Vintage" Integrated/Receiver Owners

I am really tempted by this Soundesign TX 4372 for $40, but I really don't need it at all. I blame this thread for that. [img]http://images.craigslist.org/5La5Kf5M53M33Ne3Hbc3g80efa94143da1cd1.jpg[img] On another note (sorry for the slight hijack) I would love to hear your guys' thoughts on...

Help me choose some cheap Vintage Floorstanding Speakers

My Martin Logans are on consignment because my room does not allow for anything close to proper speaker placement, and the ML are VERY room sensitive. This means they sounded like junk in my basement. I also missed the sound of moving cones and being able to feel the music rather than just hear...

    Small Footprint CD/SACD Player

Mpls is keeping up with the same old routine - disappointing professional sports franchises and all. The big deal around here lately is the Viking stadium debacle, and me trying to figure out where all the good local music is hiding these days. I looked around to find a place to purchase the...

    Best Active Speakers

Genelec, Adam, Dyn are the three brands I would recommend for the above sound signature. The Genelec and Adam will be a bit more analytical than the Dyns since they are purpose built for critical listening applications. The Dyn and Genelec are the most forgiving of the 3. All excellent active...

    Need SACD player recommendations

A used Pioneer Elite universal disc player is what I would try to find. Something like a DV45a, DV59avi, DV79AVi or the like. The next level, in my opinion, would be a Lexicon player.

Streamers, Radio, etc? (Lots of options lately)

Pioneer Elite N50 with USB Wifi Adapter? There are a lot of options. What is your budget?

    DIY Cable Gallery!!

I use a Weller WES-51ND and have never had an issue with it. I also use these butane irons for portable irons. Also, pick up a a wire spnge for cleaning the tip. Wet sponges will do nothing other than ruin your soldering tips. The wire sponges are definitely worth the $10.

Check out a used Squeezebox classic. It still needs to stream the collection but it does a great job of it.

Seperates or CD Player? Budget Inside.

Are you interested in used equipment or only new? I have a Lexicon RT-20 that would fit your requirements perfectly and would be half your budget. I was using the Lexicon as my main source for awhile, but recently turned back to using an Arcam player because it is a little more musical and...

    Small cd transport

I had to look it up because I couldn't remember, but this review confirmed my thought that a display is only necessary for setup and configuration. Wow... I just looked these up on Ebay and you can't go lose trying one of these out for $50.

You can also look for a used Pioneer DVD-V7400. Due to being designed for Industrial and Commercial environments they are built like tanks. They only desirable audio output is coaxial, but it does a good job at that, and they sell for less than dirt used (<$100).

Post pic(s) of your latest "significant" purchase(s)!!! v2.0

Close... but they are just lowly 770 premiums, but they trounce the SR225is in every way so I am very happy with them.

It's not very substantial, but it IS my latest headphone purchase. Lucas sure seems to approve, and holy damn these things are comfortable.

Most User Friendly Method for Vinyl -> Digital Storage and Playback

After some more research I have decided that I will dig out one of my old firewire audio interfaces and let my Dad buy a $30 license of Vinyl Studio if he really wants to digitize his albums. Now I just need to choose a nice $400 turntable for him. The first ones that come to mind are: Denon...

Most User Friendly Method for Vinyl -> Digital Storage and Playback

Thanks for the offer man. I am not worried about the table being complicated for dad, he did grow up with vinyl after all. I am worried about the software and USB interface. I want to make sure it is easy for him to choose a folder, look up or enter track names, maybe search and embed album...

Most User Friendly Method for Vinyl -> Digital Storage and Playback

I am looking for ideas that I can use to help pick out a birthday present for my dad. His trusty old Technics turn table died and he tossed it to Best Buy to recycle before asking me to look into fixing, so now he has a decent vinyl collection with no way to play them. My step-mother want to...

The DIY Cable Info and Help Thread

I am in the middle of fighting with UPS over losing a $10,000 assembled, wired, and programmed rack of equipment, and your made me almost fall out of my chair laughing, so this made my day. Comment by 'The8thst' in article 'Frequency Response Of Headphones'

I stumbled upon this site a while ago and it has some really good information. This tutorial is about the different bands of the audio spectrum. He recorded the same audio clip with a very steep bandpass filter throughout the whole audio spectrum and points out what to listen for in each. Very...

Time for new headphones? (Grado vs. B&W + McIntosh)

Thank you for the opinion. The D2000 are about at the top of my price range since these will stay in my office at work. It's weird I auditioned a pair of Grado SR125i plugged directly into a McIntosh C50 and they sounded great, but I haven't liked the 225s at all since I got them. *I love the...
