Best performance of Sibelius violin concerto?
Reviving this extremely old thread with one more modern recording (for those who love better audio quality) of this very great violin concerto. The Christian Tetzlaff with Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin led by Robin Ticciati. Life performance, so, you will hear some mistakes but the sound...- sionghchan

NOBLE Savant Thread (Impressions, Reviews, Tours)
Been spending more time with my newly acquired Savant (the last pair from Headphonebar here in Canada) and I must say that I'm extremely impressed. In terms of IEMs, my previous experiences are with PSB's m4u4, UE Super.fi 5pro, Shure SCL3. I use my IEMs with my Fiio X5ii DAP. My genre...- sionghchan

Generally, will a TOTL IEM costing thousands sound just as good as a mid-fi full size headphone?
Great reply! Thanks. I guess why I was curious was because I was thinking, can one TOTL iem replace all my full sized headphones. Also, since I got more into IEMs, I find that it is very hard for any company to design one that will best a full size. Mainly due to all the compromises that...- sionghchan

Generally, will a TOTL IEM costing thousands sound just as good as a mid-fi full size headphone?
Hello all, I am starting to get into the IEM world, however, I'm starting to wonder, since designing IEM means working in such a severely compromised environment (with tiny drivers and extremely confined space), will it take A LOT to get it to match a full sized headphone? For example, I...- sionghchan

Noble Audio - the Wizard returns!
Thanks @FullCircIe This really helps! I think, like you, I do like a little bass in my headphones, hence, my preference for Sennheiser HD650 over the AKG K701, even for Classical. Also, as I can recall, the mids in the Savanna is quite forward and the Savant is little more balanced from...- sionghchan

Noble Audio - the Wizard returns!
@FullCircle Been a long time member of head-fi, but have recently lost touch and starting to reconnect with the headphones community again. First off, I must say how impressed I am with the Noble IEMs (had a chance to audition them at my local headphone store (headphonebar.com). In...- sionghchan

NAD Viso HP50 : Another superb headphone from Paul Barton?
Anyone know where PSB and NAD headphones are made? I have both, the NAD VISO HP50 and the PSB m4u4 iem, although the company is Canadian, it doesn't state anywhere on the box where these headphones are made. Any ideas anyone? Not that it mattered too much, as I'm in love with the PSB sound...- sionghchan

PSB Speakers M4U 4 --- Hybrid BA/Dynamic IEM
Anyone here was able to compare this with the NAD VISO HP50 headphone? Sounds similar? I have not heard any of the larger NAD or PSB headphones (passive ones) and wonder how they compare.- sionghchan

PSB Speakers M4U 4 --- Hybrid BA/Dynamic IEM
I too have bought into this headphones and am very impressed by its SQ. I also agree with everyone's impression about the case being too compact. What I've resorted to doing was to coil the headphone up around my fist, then slipping it under the elastic band. Due to the coil, it creates...- sionghchan

Xiaomi Hybrid IEM Thread (Piston successor)
If your Hybrid sounds dark, then I think it is a dud. These phones are anything by dark. It is definitely V shaped with more of a recessed mids. The treble is very crisp and I heard a lot of details from my pair.- sionghchan

Hahah..yeah, lopsided, but fun nonetheless. Giant killer the Xiaomi is not, but still a fun pair of headphones! As for your dark pair vs. my V shaped pair, perhaps I got the fake! Hahaha- sionghchan

Xiaomi Hybrid IEM Thread (Piston successor)
Anyone here knows the size of the Dynamic driver that Xiaomi used for the Hybrid IEM? I'm curious as I'm comparing it directly against the PSB m4u4 Hybrid IEM as well. Very VERY different sound signature where the PSB is extremely balanced and the Xiaomi is a V shaped signature. In anycase...- sionghchan

Xiaomi Hybrid IEM Thread (Piston successor)
I actually disagree. Been listening to a pair of these for a few weeks now, for the price, they are actually very enjoyable. Sure, they do have a V shaped sound signature, very detailed (clear top end) and good low end with a slightly recessed mid end, but they do make listening quite...- sionghchan

Headphones Consolidation.
Both these cans sound roughly the same soundstage wise. 701 may have the advantage however not by much in practical terms. Bass wise, the 701 losses or to the 880. Generally, I still prefer the DT880.- sionghchan

Headphones Consolidation.
It depends. For Jazz, I like the HD650 the most. For classical, I tend to gravitate to my Beyer DT880. Occasionally, if the piece is bright, I will use my AKG but I do find these 701's bass to be too light. The DT880's bass is excellent! It doesn't muddy the mid bass region. It has real sub bass...- sionghchan

Thank you everyone for your responses everyone! Very useful replies. Just wondering if how close DT880 is to the HD800? However, I do agree that the LCD2 sounds inappropriate. Wonder why the headphone shop I visited recommended those to me. In fact, he even said that the HD800 is close enough to...- sionghchan

Best headphones for classical music
I'm a Classical fan as well and do own Sennheiser HD650, AKG K701, Beyer DT770 and 880 plus Grado/Alessandro MS1. If you are into Classical, stay away from Grado. These are better suited for rock. They have a V shaped EQ, short decay and compressed head-stage. If you can afford it, the...- sionghchan

Hello all, After head-fi introduced me to the wonderful world of headphones, I am finding that I'm at the point where I may have just too many headphones and the decision to pick one to play each time is wearing on me. Schiit Bifrost V.S. Peachtree DAC-iT
Hello there, the price on Woot makes it extremely attractive. I think, for the price difference (and the fact that one is new and the other is B stock), it is difficult to look past the DAC-ITx. I own the DAC-ITx for a couple of days now and found that its sound signature was what I...- sionghchan

Great! I can't wait to see what you thought of the Concero vs. the Uberfied Bitfrost. Did your roommate get the regular Concero (which uses the ESS Sabre 9023 chip) or the Concero HD/HP (which uses the ESS 9018 chip)? Also, I was comparing the brand new price of all the 3 DACs...- sionghchan

Not to add fuel to the resurrection of this old thread, I have just received my new Peachtree DAC-ITx.
