Can I update the Zen Stream firmware while its in roon only mode, or do I have to move it back to all modes?

Thanks I appreciate it. Yea its a great DAC. I owned a Denafrips Venus 2 and Gustard R26 before this and I much prefer the exogal. The biggest benefit is the volume control is so good on the unit its better than or as good as my stand alone preamp.

yea its an older DAC from a company that went under during the pandemic due to parts shortage. So unfortunately they wont be able to provide any support. I was just hoping that there would be a way to keep the out on a default setting rather than having it auto search. I usually leave the zen...

Its an Exogal Comet. When I turn off the DAC and it goes into standby mode the Zen stream still shows the output as USB but once I power it up out of standby mode it switches over to SPDIF.

Is there a way to have the Zen stream to default to USB out? Whenever I turn on my system it always defaults back to SPDIF. I have to manually go and change the output to USB every single time I turn on my system.

Im thinking this DAC would be perfect with Magnepans. Maggies are extremely transparent, this should smooth things out but still retain the same level of transparency.

Roon via LAN on my R26 just stopped working which is very weird. Could it be the cable that failed? I use a longer run cable so I wont be able to test a new cable until it arrives today.

In my experience after speakers the pre-amp made the biggest difference a component made to my system. A good dedicated preamp will beat most volume controls on DACs. With my preamp and the r26 volume control its not even close.

Any news when firmware update will include tidal connect?

Seriously! The streamer is so good I sold my Zen Stream and used that money to buy a pair or Maggie LRS

I compared this DAC to a Pontus 2. The only thing the Pontus 2 did better was vocal textures. R26 was superior to everything else in my system.

Adding Tidal connect would be a game changer. I have a friend who gave up on Roon since he didnt think the cost was worth it. He primarily streams from Tidal. If Tidal connect works on this I can see this DAC appealing to ALOT of people.

I use Simaudio Moon W5.3 power amp and run a couple of speakers. That amp is quite beefy. I noticed the bass drop with my Maggies when i swapped out my old chip DAC for the R26. It didnt bother me since i just had to adjust my subs.

In any case preference of these DACs is probably system dependent. Since I disagree with his assessment. The R26 was much better than the Pontus 2, which in itself is an upgrade over the Ares. I do agree the bass slam on the R26 isnt as good as some chip DACs I've heard.

Get the classic records vinyl rip. Its probably the best you will be able to get.

Lets hope they add Tidal or Spotify Connect at some point.

I sold my iFi Zen stream because the streamer in the R26 is so good. I thought the Zen stream would be my last streamer, I guess not.

After hitting click here and it seems like its stuck, turn on the power at the rear. It will complete after.
