do your IEMs sound a bit better when..

I imagine you could trim even the clear/grey flex sleeves to put the sound nozzle farther into your ear. You'd just have to be careful it wasn't so far through as to scratch. You might also have to be more diligent about cleaning them. (If I press my iems in farther, I lose sound entirely...

Jane needs Tarzan in IEM jungle

Isn't the shure e5 supposed to be bassy? Or is that just compared to the rest of the line? (Edit/PS: Yep, the e5 is definitely different from the e500, but I'm too used to the e500 going to be here Real Soon Now to recommend it to someone needing it for a trip, and also it's so far above my...

Are IEM’s any better at noise reduction than plain, old foam ear plugs?

I regularly sleep with the e3s, on my side, but those are a bit smaller than the e4s, I think. And as has already been said, these don't isolate as much as foam earplugs, but just the addition of very, very quiet music does so much to cover up residual noise that you'll be amazed. Steady...

    dead e3s?

Sigh. My shure e3s seem to have a problem; the sound coming out of the right piece is much, much, much too quiet, only becoming audible at about half-volume. I checked it out, figuring maybe it needs cleaning (never had to clean it before) but it looks just the same inside as the other one...

    How do V-MODA headphones sound?

I'm not an audiophile, but to me they sound ok. Comparing them to my ksc75s, I'd generally pick the koss, but it isn't a drag to use the vmoda earbuds, especially if I'm not listening to something where the bass-heavy kosses aren't as appropriate. In really "full" sounding music like...

All you highly critical listeners, teach me your ways.

I'm not really picky about bitrates, but I've had to rerip certain opera albums. Maria Callas in particular can just totally show up compression. Mostly stuff will just seem sort of grainy and sludgy. Obviously don't try to look for this in such as Morphine, which has no highs and is naturally...

    I am officially baffled

If you're just going to be listening in your room, then you're probably better off listening to the grado/alessandro "it doesn't look that bad and so what if it leaks, it's great for your music," crew. If you're going to be walking around with them, taking them to school, and so on, get the...

    IEM Durability

They have only the one driver, but I did take out my shure e3s to talk to the teller at the bank, shove just the plugs in my pocket, and walk halfway home across broken, uneven sidewalks before I noticed they'd come back out of my pocket and were trailing after me... ...and they're fine.

    The Perfect Song?

Nobody has mentioned Porcupine Tree yet? Kind of progrock, kind of pop, vague metal tendencies. It's not even generally my thing, but it's /great/ and Steven Wilson is a meticulous producer. My favourite album is Lightbulb Sun: try Lightbulb Sun (groovy and pop) or Russia On Ice(nearly Floydish).

Only ksc75 flaw-Cant lie back wearing them.

Mine stay on fine when I lie back. I'd be afraid of getting sand in them at the beach, though.

I Won a set of v-moda remix at ilounge!

Tee-hee! So did I! On the last question, even. (And I let my boyfriend talk me into getting the pink ones... though, the silvery ones might look a bit too much like ibuds for my comfort.) I wonder if they're any good.

IEM for Wind Noise??? Recomend Please

I live on a reasonably windy hill, and the wind noise with my e3s, even over and around the ear, is still quite loud. (As a comparison, it needed to be louder than when I was listening to music in the rear of an airplane.) If wind noise is your first consideration, I can't help but suggest...

Koss cans: most comfortable, best sound, <= $25

I just got a pair of the ksc75s, and as surprised as I was at the sound (the BASS! I'm used to earbuds from years) I was even more surprised at how comfortable they are. I have a pair of ubercrappy sportsstyle-type headphones I use for my computer since they have a long cord, and I can never...

IEMs or not - please help

I don't have them but the shure e2s have slightly wider a barrel than the other shures or the etymotic headphones. They use different tips. While plenty of people have found them comfortable, they're also (I think) the ones I've seen most often in statements like, "I tried the e2s but they were...

Help - KSC75 just blew my mind

I just got myself a pair today... yeepf. I'm used to earbuds and iems. I felt like I had small subwoofers clipped to my ears.

Open vs. closed in the workplace

I don't work in an office, but our front room has three computers going, one on my desk, and I'm responsible for hearing my grandma call from the next room. I actually hear her just as well with (the least isolating tips on my) e3s as with my earbuds because I'm listening at a low volume which...

How loud do you have your IEM's volume at?

I have my mp3s gained down to 79db to get a little more adjustability in the lower ranges, so I can have my ipod's volume bar up to 50% in traffic. Usually it hangs out around 10-25% when I'm using them to avoid hearing my aunt play Diablo and in the first one or two settings up in a quiet room...

    Air Travel and IEM's

It was my experience too that having the iems in reduced discomfort (not that I suffer much anyway.) I was pretty surprised that the stewardess didn't complain, though I don't know if it's due to so many people wearing earplugs/iems or if she just didn't notice the e3s. (Ipod was off, but how...

In ear phones slipping out of ears

I have a somewhat similar problem; I use the clear silicone tips on my e3s when I want lots of isolation, but the dark grey ones don't isolate as well which is more useful at times. However, even switching up to the medium size, my right one falls out of my ear. Feels more like it's being...

    In ear phones

You might also want to consider buying something used off the forums here -- I got my e3cs (which I love!) for ~$85 or so shipped. If these are your first "real" headphones you'll probably be thrilled with whatever you get, but buying used, you can just sell them again if you don't like them.

Earbuds / Inears for Ipod Shuffle

You might want to steer clear of canalphones if you'll be using these things for jogging. First, while out and around you might want to be aware of your situation -- traffic, other people, and so on. Secondly, because of the seal these make, you can hear your footsteps whenever you walk. You...

Anyone happy with 4g Ipod (photo) + Shure E3?

I'm happy with my photo and e3s, but I'm not an audiophile and these are my first "good" headphones. I seem to remember the consensus being that they're not a good match, but they sure are comfy.

    Very dissapointed with Shure E3C

Personally, I can stick my e3s so far into my ears that I lose sound quality (in fact, that I lose all sound), while keeping a good seal. This happens less often with the harder clear tips, so I imagine I'm actually squishing the opening closed.
