Cheapest way to get ciems?
Basically, I have a friend who isn't an audiophile and therefore doesn't really care about sound. However, they would greatly benefit from having custom shells as they are having a really hard time finding iems which are comfortable for them. So what is the cheapest way to get custom shells...- potatoos

How to control volume on powered speakers?
I am looking into making my first major foray into speakers and am looking into the JBL LS305 (or something similar such as the Rokit5, etc). What would be the best way to control the volume on that? Would the Schiit SYS work for my needs?- potatoos

CIEM vs Full Sized
I am really hoping that someone can point me towards a comparison of the merits of ciems offer vs full sized cans and vice versa. I am considering getting a rather expensive upgrade at some point and am currently debating whether to go with the Alpha Dogs (don't really want opened) or something...- potatoos

Soundmagic HP150/HP151 Impressions Thread
Does anyone currently have the HP10 and the HP150 for comparison? From what I have seen so far, there are varying opinions about the differences between them. I read one guy's review who said that the HP150 was closer to the HP200 in sound than the HP100, meaning that it was more spacious and...- potatoos

Mic/Audio splitter for Ety HF3
I would like to be able to use my Etymotic HF3 with my PC (Windows 7), but that would require a splitter of some sort to separate the audio in and the mic outputs that are on the single plug of the HF3 (3 ring, smartphone 3.5mm connector, whatever it is called). The problem that I am seeing with...- potatoos

Soundmagic HP150/HP151 Impressions Thread
Currently, he is the only one on hand with access to the HP150. We can't help it if we are a bit excited. Also, no one asked for a response within any amount of time. As far as I am concerned, he can answer these requests at his leisure. I just don't want to forget if I have a question, so I ask...- potatoos

Soundmagic HP150/HP151 Impressions Thread
Could you post a picture of the drivers (removing the pads is easy enough to do with the design that the HP100 has at least) as well as a picture of the side of the pad so that we can get an idea of whether or not the pads are thicker than the HP100 and at least if the drivers appear to be the...- potatoos

Just checking -- is it widely accepted that a $1,000 speaker system will sound better than a $1,500 headphone?
I would imagine that it has a large amount to do with the amping and what dac you are using with the HD800s. It also has to do with how used to each one you are. If you've had the speakers longer, then you are likely very used to hearing what it is they sound like and anything else is going to...- potatoos

HP100, DT880, Q701, Mad Dogs, etc
Honestly, from what I've read, the HP100 is looking like my best option. More input would be appreciated though.- potatoos

HP100, DT880, Q701, Mad Dogs, etc
I am looking for a pair of fullsized headphones. My main concern is accuracy and detail, but that doesn't mean that I want to listen to a tin can. Accurate bass means that it hits hard when needed, and doesn't show when it isn't needed. I want to make sure that that is true of the headphones...- potatoos

Lets Talk Metal
Some of the timings on things like the cymbals and the xylophone are a bit off, but I notice that with tons of bands (even big name ones from time to time). My biggest gripe would be the breakdowns, but as you've said, that isn't something that you can phase out just yet. The guitarist's sound... -

Quote: I could be mistaken, but I thought he was referring to these. If you do go with these, then spend the left over on a decent amp. http://www.amazon.com/Technica-ATH-AD900-Audiophile-Open-air-Headphones/dp/B0006OQY2S/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1361560990&sr=8-1&keywords=ATH-AD900- potatoos

Q701 impressions thread
Want to know. Is there a way to use the E12 like a desktop amp. By that, I mean can you plug it up to a power source and let it stay plugged up without worrying about blowing the battery inside, or can you take the battery out to avoid that?- potatoos

Quote: It isn't that. I just like to be sure of my purchase first, otherwise I might end up with something that doesn't fit what I want and I have no one to blame but myself. Then sending them back would just make more work for Mr. Speakers. Hopefully, by the time I can rake together that...- potatoos

"Mad Dog" by MrSpeakers, modified Fostex T50RP review
Quote: Do you prefer their sound over that of your B2? I typically like colder sounding cans, but that might be becausethose are the only decent ones that I am familiar with. Maybe a really good laid back can such as this would do me well. If only I had the money to buy one of everything...- potatoos

"Mad Dog" by MrSpeakers, modified Fostex T50RP review
I originally posted this in the recommendation thread, and got the suggestion of SRH940. I then posted it in the Q701 thread and the people there made the Q701 sound like the right choice. I like the idea of the Mad Dogs, and would like to have a pair eventually, but would their laid back-ness...- potatoos
