At around 150-170 ish range, there's still a sheesh-ton handful of options that sound better, imho.  Therein lies the controversy regarding the Beats, especially at/near retail.

90's have much more bass than the DBA-02, in terms of quantity.   I own all three of these b*ishes, I think the 700 is vastly superior to the other two.  But that's just me.

Second the IE8/80.  IE7 if you don't like as much bass or want something more neutral.   Another path is to try the SM3-definitely a darker sound, but somewhat warm and clean.  But I think you would be happier with dynamics.  Probably.

These are great.  Like really great.   For the general masses, I can't see why anybody wouldn't like them.  Just a nice, fun sound.  Good timbre, bass, mids.  Clean and very good separation.  Laid-back and smooth, yet the sound feels energetic, punchy.  Comfortable and light, great...

Shouldn't be a bass distortion at all, I've used mine for quite a long while and have pumped out a lot of bass, even boosting it eq/amps like the ZO and no problems...   Will recommend getting a replacement pair as well-sounds like you might have gotten a rare dud.
