Schiit Yggdrasil Impressions thread
Just to reverberate, AES is the best input on the Yggy. USB vs AES comparison done via my Auralic Aries G2.- DrTone

MQA Deep Dive - I published tracks on Tidal to test MQA
What MQA is: 1) It’s an end to end licensing scheme that offers opportunity for owners to make $ if widely adapted. 2) It could offer content providers bandwidth savings over PCM 24/192 content. Lesser savings with 24/96 PCM content. This isn’t really needed at all at the client side. 3) It...- DrTone

Bowers & Wilkins PX7 noise-cancelling over ear headphones
PX7 is always doing a D/A. If you use analog in you also get a A/D before the D/A. Thus USB in would be a better choice to avoid the A/D.- DrTone

Schiit Yggdrasil Impressions thread
Because I think there might be room for improvement. I personally find my Yggdrasil a little less impressive with hi-res content compared to some other DACs I've owned. It is spectacular with redbook.- DrTone

Schiit Yggdrasil Impressions thread
Dithering 24bit to 20bit would be the only thing I would consider doing in front of the Yggdrasil.- DrTone

Bowers & Wilkins PX7 noise-cancelling over ear headphones
Seems like the following issues have been resolved: 1) Click sound on iOS volume adjustment. 2) The headphones now remember your last ANC setting. That said I had a stuttering tantrum listening to some music on iOS for the first time today. Hopefully an isolated case.- DrTone

Bowers & Wilkins PX7 noise-cancelling over ear headphones
The analog input is ran through an A/D converter and then back through the DAC even if ANC is turned off. This is the reason power is required even with analog. Having ANC for analog on flights is the reasoning I do believe.- DrTone

Bowers & Wilkins PX7 noise-cancelling over ear headphones
The PX7s internal DAC can’t be removed from the signal chain even with the analog input. So, at the very best you like the coloration added using those external DACs and the analog input.- DrTone

That review was a little out to lunch in my opinion. But since the PS Audio which I haven’t heard is his frame of reference I have to give him the benefit of the doubt.- DrTone

Life after Yggdrasil?
I have to agree that a good Sabre DAC has a blacker background and I’ll add more explosive bass. But the texture and timbre and feel just isn’t on par with the Yggdrasil A2. I also feel the Yggdrasil a little weaker with hi-res but bloody exceptional with red-book.- DrTone

My Resonessence Mirus Pro had more bass impact and speed but I find the texture more accurate on the Yggy A2. My McIntosh DAC is plain boomy in the bottom end and not accurate in any way.- DrTone

Recommendations for high-end DAC with no volume control

Review: Resonessence Labs Invicta - new high end DAC/amp/playback system
Well I only made the comment because I know dealers that have been waiting for contact from Resonessence about carrying their product and get silence. I'm pretty sure the company is run out Mark's house (maybe Sabre's labs as well), though you might not call it a house if you've seen google...- DrTone

Review: Resonessence Labs Invicta - new high end DAC/amp/playback system
Not sure why they think they need a streamer or amp, they don't even market their current products. Sometimes I wonder if Resonessence is just a playground to keep Mark et all from getting bored. :) What changed in the filters to warrant all the name changes is of most interest to me. To take...- DrTone

As well has anyone talked to Resonessence about the new filters? Are they all custom Resonessence or are the first 2 still done by the Sabre DAC? What does "Corrected" mean on that Minimum Phase filter?- DrTone

Review: Resonessence Labs Invicta - new high end DAC/amp/playback system
We will have to agree to disagree on this one. I play acoustic guitar and found the Yggdrasil to sound more accurate with the correct amount of texture and decay on recordings I've played back. I feel the filtering differences between the DACs might play a part in this. I could be tempted to...- DrTone
