I dislike straight up djent but I think there are useful elements that can be taken from it. Ex: https://sithuayemusic.bandcamp.com/track/pulse-part-i-feat-plini   The problem with the band you posted is that there's only one melodic line. No layers, just the single synchronized riff with...

"Prog metal" has been interchangeable with "sounds like Dream Theater" for the past 15 years.   ...and while we're on the subject, I just came to post this:     Drewsif Stalin - ...Comes To An End   Prog/djent one-man band from Baltimore that occasionally moves into metalcore territory...

Solid and doomy. I'm really enjoying this one and it came out of nowhere.     Auric - Empty Seas

This is an interesting discussion to follow. In my experience, every metal listener that I know is one is also one of the calmest people I know.     Quote:   How do you distinguish the "fake" angry metal from the real stuff?

    Lets Talk Metal

You might be mixing up experiencing emotions and perceiving emotions. I mean, I wouldn't want to ever actually feel extremely angry. Listening to a song with a clear mind allows you to better perceive the emotions it's portraying, like any nuance in the music. It sound like you and KritiKal...

I listened to all of their albums back when I got into metal but nothing really "stuck" then. Recently I fell in love with Road Salt One, and since then I've been slowly going back through their discography and enjoying it a lot more this time around. Dan is such a unique singer!    ...

I always seem to like stoner metal until the vocals kick in, because it's usually some weird halfway point between singing and growling that never works for me. The mix sounds great with all of that sub bass and downtuned guitars, though. Producer clearly knew what he was doing. Speaking of...

Their first album was pre-order only for vinyl, so I bought it after they had only released one song. That turned out to be the only song on the album that I liked. Needless to say, I'm not much a fan of pre-orders any more.

I was really into post metal for about a year before getting burned out. I still visit favorites occasionally, but a lot of these albums seem to lack substance with repeated listens.

I forgot that was coming out last week. The teaser track got me really excited when I heard it a month ago.

Best prog metal album in some time. I'm not really a fan of theatrical vocals, but these guys pull it off so well and they have a slightly-off way of doing everything that's really refreshing.   Native Construct   https://nativeconstruct.bandcamp.com

I haven't seen these guys posted here yet. Pretty cool vocals.   https://vetha.bandcamp.com/album/rancid-or-acid   I liked it much better than their last one, actually.

I remember hearing a track from that album when it came out and not liking it, but this is way better. I'll have to give the whole thing a try, thanks.

I think it's going to be a good year.   Ghost Bath and A Forest of Stars were both great! An Autumn for Crippled Children was good, but they've kind of worked themselves into a rut. I would've liked it better if I hadn't heard their other albums. Periphery was a really fun listen...

Power metal favorites:     Seventh Wonder   Ancient Bards - A New Dawn Ending   I enjoyed Epica's latest album too (which was a first) but I'm sure you've heard of them.

I don't think that's inherently a bad thing. I mean look at In Absentia, or Scenes from a Memory (probably the only DT album I still enjoy the whole way through). If anything I would expect an album heavy on concept to be more consistent.

I had mixed feelings about this. There were some truly mind-blowing sections, but it felt really inconsistent compared to his last 2 albums. One thing I can say for sure is the recording is some of the best I've ever heard.

Great riffs here.    Chaos Divine   I just found this video. Never heard of the band before, but the album comes out in 3 days and this song has me hyped! The vocals sound a little bit generic but I think I'll get past it.       I'm not sure I get your point--those aren't metal...

I've thought that ever since the first time I heard them... I still make myself listen to a few songs every now and again because it feels like I'm just missing something. It's like I can tell how much cool stuff is in there, but it just isn't coming together for me.   Or maybe it's just...

Was it their intention to make an album that takes longer to pronounce than to listen to? I haven't seen a naming convention like that since 55gore.

Are we talking about Disturbed or Agalloch?
  23. macrocheesium

    Lets Talk Metal

My usual listening habit is to shuffle my entire library until a I hear a song that sounds good at that moment, and then I go on to listen to that entire album. Sometimes I don't know what I want to hear until I hear it. "Shuffling" isn't inherently bad, IMO.   I've always looked at music in...

    Lets Talk Metal

Aside from concept albums and albums with songs that are closely tied together, I can't honestly say that there's a point to the album format. Of course I like it because it's what I'm used to and all that, but without the limitations of physical media it makes more sense to release material...

Yeah, I felt the same way about their last 2. This sounds really promising! Gonna miss Mikko, though.
