You know what got really old really fast and doesn't really want to go away/die down a bit?
Djent.
All these Meshuggah cover bands keep popping up but almost none of them deserve anyones time.
Had this thought after stumbling across this band: https://willowtip.bandcamp.com/album/clockwork-sky
Just listen to it! How uninspired can a band be?
Man....anyway, just my two cents.

Good thing I never even got into djent outside of Meshuggah. Heck, I listened to Meshuggah since around 2002 and never even saw the word djent until a year or two ago. Still, I am curious about what other djent bands sound like.

I dislike straight up djent but I think there are useful elements that can be taken from it. Ex: https://sithuayemusic.bandcamp.com/track/pulse-part-i-feat-plini

The problem with the band you posted is that there's only one melodic line. No layers, just the single synchronized riff with (atonal) vocals. Or in other words, nothing to complement the djent rhythm. It can be a good concept but not good enough to stand alone.

Kind of reminds me of the Infected Mushroom album that just came out. For anyone who's unfamiliar or doesn't know the band, they've been steadily spiraling into mindless dubstep over the past few years. With this newest release the dubstep beats are still there, but they're incorporated with the band's old style and it sounds great. Once they decided to stop going 100% in the new direction and take the best of both worlds, they were able to create something refreshing and original, especially so considering the fact that most music listeners hate dubstep with a passion. Execution makes all the difference.

This is masterpiecerest:

I mean, seriously... what kind of music is this anyway? It's not like any doom I've ever heard. Dem riffs doe.

The new one coming out soon is even better.

That is exactly what I wanted to hear. It sounds like the next two albums won't be hour long songs, but multiple shorter songs. Are you able to confirm our deny?

Meshuggah... I think it's hilarious that they unintentionally spawned a genre that contains zero bands that can live up to them, and they're still cranking out fantastic albums. New one scheduled for 2016!

Any YOB fans here? I saw them playing live their latest album, Clearing the Path to Ascent. One of the best live experience I have ever had.

Oh hell yes. Especially live! I think their albums, great as they may be, are only a mild indication of the power and energy they bring to the stage.

The first time I saw them live was in 2011, at the Incubate festival in Tilburg, at 2 am in a very small venue, maybe 50, 60 people there - they didn't even have their own drummer with them, the guy from Dark Castle filled in for Travis - anyway they kicked off with Burning the Altar and the room just exploded. People went crazy - banging their heads off, a small but insane drug fueled moshpit broke loose - all I could do was stand there in complete awe of what was happening. The power of doom was unleashed that night.

Finally.

Until then, let's all enjoy this totally serious video, especially the air drumming.

...Shoot, I still need to hear Moonspell's newest album.
