Effect of "disabling all enhancements" in Sound/Control Panel, Windows 10
Thanks. Turned out to be a Dell installed program called MaxxAudio Pro that has a loudness/added bass button that seems to be present all the time no matter what audio usb device you have plugged in. When you switch off the Disable All Enhancements in Windows/sound... it goes too.- davidc2

Effect of "disabling all enhancements" in Sound/Control Panel, Windows 10
Thanks. I find this subject pretty confusing. When I use the Dragonfly Cobalt it appears as the playback device in the list of playback devices...I assume that if it requires a driver that is being supplied by W10. I thought that disabling all enhancements meant no other software (like a...- davidc2

Effect of "disabling all enhancements" in Sound/Control Panel, Windows 10
I have HD800s headphones that I listen through, via an Audioquest Dragonfly Cobalt dac/amp, and from a Dell XPS 15 7590 laptop using mainly the Amazon Music Unlimited HD source. I have just noticed a curiosity: In Sound in Windows 10 Pro's Control Panel, I have found that in the AQ Cobalt...- davidc2

Professional vs Home: Beyerdynamic DT 1990 Pro vs Beyerdynamic Amiron Home
Sorry if this is OT but has anyone a solution to the chronic squeak and creak of plastic glasses frames on the earpads of the Amiron Home? Is a modification possible that doesn't just involve taking my glasses off or buying new metal frame glasses? Incidentally, I have the Amiron Homes and the...- davidc2

Interference even with an external USB DAC
Quote: It was a bargain as far as I was concerned. There was no reason to think a new motherboard would sort out the problem (which would have been the same sort of cost). Raymond Lau was spot on and his advice saved me a lot of aggravation. I am very happy with the sound I have now.- davidc2

Interference even with an external USB DAC
Don't know if it was "interference" but I was getting clicks and some stuttering with my Musical Fidelity M1 A DAC when used with usb and it nearly drove me nuts. I came across this webpage - http://www.raylau.com/MusicalFidelity-M1A-DAC-USB-Audio-Pops.html . Buying a V-Link 192 and...- davidc2

Anything better than a Audioegnine A5+ for desk near-field usage?
Don't know if they are better - but I'm using Genelec 8030As with the 7050B sub-woofer and they keep me happy.- davidc2

Can I safely have balanced and unbalanced outputs on my dac connected at the same time?
Thanks. Have just checked with Musical Fidelity tech support too who say it's fine to have both sources connected. Now I just have to deal with the odd crackle I get with the usb connection....- davidc2

Can I safely have balanced and unbalanced outputs on my dac connected at the same time?
I have a new Musical Fidelity M1 A and I am feeding Genelec 8030A speakers from it over balanced connections from a usb input from my pc I would like now to connect the unbalanced phono connections from the M1 to my Graham Slee headphone amp to use that with headphones. I don't want to use...- davidc2

Intermittent sound from DACMagic Plus
I have an Xonar Essence STX card feeding my DACMagic Plus over SPDIF, and then take the signal on to some Genelec speakers. But there is a problem. Sometimes - and it seems to me unpredictably - the signal does not appear to reach the DACMagic Plus when I boot up the computer. I can tell this...- davidc2

Thanks. Yes, a sound source is active on the computer but no sound comes via the DAC. Switching the DAC on and off makes the signal audible again.- davidc2

DACMagic Plus - strange behaviour
I have a DACMagic Plus fed by my PC via an Asus Xonar Essence STX sound card using its SPDIF connector. The DAC feeds some Genelec active speakers. The problem is that intermittently, and unpredictably,on some pc boot ups and sometimes when awaking from sleep, the DAC is inactive. When this...- davidc2

Alternatives to Audiolab M-DAC?
I have had a DacMasgic Plus for a few months now and am nearly very happy with it. I think it sounds fine (through Genelec speakers and Grado RSi headphones). It has however, an awful volume knob. It is too smooth to the touch and not free turning. It is crazy for me to dislike this so much...- davidc2

Sorting out ground hum help please
I put my Beyer Dynamic MMX 300 headset on this evening to do some work - screen recording with narration - and found there was a loud hum in the head set. I haven't used the headset for a couple of months so I'm not sure what, if any, change in hardware configuration, may have caused the hum -...- davidc2

DACMagic Plus Impressions
I agree that treble brightness isn't a problem. I like the DMPlus very much - it's just the awful volume knob that's bad to use. It's probably the way it is because it's multi-purpose (eg like pushing in to mute) and I suppose the front of the case has no room for additional buttons. Not nice...- davidc2

M-DAC and DACMagic Plus volume controls
I find the volume control of my DacMagic Plus irritatingly stiff to turn. Can someone who has the M-Dac say if the volume control is easy to rotate, please? Thanks.- davidc2

DacMagic Plus into DacMagic into Novo headphone amp
Yes, I could have tried the Essence One instead of the DMPlus. I'm sure it's very capable. I just couldn't live with the bright blue light round the power button. I like the STX card and I'm sure the Essence One is very good, though I don't like its looks at all.- davidc2

DACMagic Plus Impressions
I don't think the DM and the DMPlus sound different. I doubt I could tell them apart in a blind test. However, I think I prefer my Graham Slee Novo headphone amp to the headphone amp in the DMPlus. The Novo sound is a bit meatier with a little more definition (in my Grado RS1i's). But even...- davidc2
