I have an Xonar Essence STX card feeding my DACMagic Plus over SPDIF, and then take the signal on to some Genelec speakers. But there is a problem. Sometimes - and it seems to me unpredictably - the signal does not appear to reach the DACMagic Plus when I boot up the computer. I can tell this not just by the absence of sound but because the sample rate light on the dac does not illuminate. But, when I switch the DACMagic Plus on and off, the signal appears and sound is normal.
I asked this in the Computer Audio forum but didn't get any advice, so I'm asking here too. Is it likely to be a faulty sound card or a faulty DACMagic Plus? I suppose I should try replugging using just the SPDIF connector on my motherboard, but the system has been working absolutely fine as it is until quite recently. Grateful for any advice?
