Headphones for sludge metal, hardcore, powerviolence, etc.
I've been listening to a lot of bands like Nails, No Zodiac, Melvins, Bell Witch, etc. and my Etymotic MK 5's just aren't cutting it. I need a pair of full-sized headphones that not only have bass grunt for low-tuned guitars but treble crispness to give the music body and shape. I have owned...- cajunchrist

Best album made before 1980
Quote: Originally posted by RMSzero So I told my friend, hey man, I'm not into the Beatles, they just aren't my thing. He then replied "Oh, well that means you probably like the Rolling Stones. Everyone is either a Beatles man or a Stones man." I was like um, no. Rolling Stones has...- cajunchrist

Best Mini-mini and mini-RCA interconnects
Quote: Originally posted by FlurkingShnit Contrary to what people say here, I actually prefer the Kimber the most with my etys. I love the midrange clarity and upper frequency extension. The straightwire and markertek have more pronounced bass however. I'm not sure if that's a... -

Best Mini-mini and mini-RCA interconnects
Yep, I'm gonna get an inexpensive soldering iron and put a new connector on my V6's as my very first soldering attempt. I'm sure it will be quite easy, and very satisfying. -
Best Mini-mini and mini-RCA interconnects
If you build it yourself, yeah. Get somebody else to build it for you, and the costs go up. You can save tons of money if you build things yourself. What I meant by hand built was, not made by a machine. -

Best Mini-mini and mini-RCA interconnects
The Straightwire mini is o.k., nothing to write home about. Its only real advantage is that it has two right angle plugs and is better than Rat Shack. Other than that, its sound is unspectacular. -

I originally posted these observations on headwize: Your reason for not accepting user donations: "Yes, we have our big spenders in the bunch, but I don't feel (and please, guys, take no offense) confident enough in my ability to collect, say, $1000/month from such a vast member base, each...- cajunchrist

Specialty headphone amp: Is it doable?
Well, I wanted it built in the battery pack because the battery pack was physically designed to attatch conventiently to the player, without having an extra box bouncing around in my pocket (I will be using this combo as a true portable for music on the go). Glueing a couple of velcro straps to...- cajunchrist

Best album made before 1980
The only other record I seriously considered recommending was Miles Davis' Kind of Blue. The methodology I used to approach the question was to consider what albums pre-80's have caused the most direct influence on music that came after, so that a listener familiar with music post 80's might be...- cajunchrist

Recording/Mastering Headphones?
yeah, there are lots of recordings I have that specifically instruct the listener to play the music loud (Cure's Disintegration, Skinny Puppy's VIvisectVI, Skin Chamber's Trial, etc.) I recently purchased the KSC-35's and noticed the midrange was very warm and the bass overly boomy, until I...- cajunchrist

Best album made before 1980
hello RMSzero: That's a very restrictive requirement, but it makes the question challenging. Which to play first? I'd have to say something by the Beatles. They more than any artists defined what pop music would become for the rock era. They have an immensley varied catalog, so it's hard...- cajunchrist

Specialty headphone amp: Is it doable?
So a 9v power supply would be the only real choice if I wanted an increase in sound quality? I could live with that. I think it would be best to hardwire the input and trail out a few inches of cable terminated in a right angle stereo mini plug, and have the headphone out as the only jack on...- cajunchrist

Best Mini-mini and mini-RCA interconnects
I like the Kimber mini to RCA, I use it on my JMT amp from JVC DVD player and I get really good results. The Kimber mini to mini however I think is too bright and lacks bottom end. I suggest looking in to a Markertek mini to mini. They use Canare cable and plugs, and is a great sounding cable... -

Closed and maybe wireless 'phones. Any recommendations?
I don't think kids that age should be using headphones...sound levels with headphones can get quite loud quite quick, and kids usually aren't thinking about the damage that too much noise can cause. If the 7 year olds open headphones are leaking too much sound, chances are she's listening too...- cajunchrist

V6's with Beyer pads would cost just about as much as the cheapest online price for the 280's...I haven't heard the 280's, and I like my V6's a lot. It would be a tough choice if I didn't have the V6's already.- cajunchrist
