Looking for some on-ear for-home-use-only phones
Awesome, thanks for the report back. Certainly sounds like they're working perfectly for you, congrats! I pulled the trigger on some Mad Dogs after going round and round looking at impressions, reviews and tests and looking at where I'd be able to purchase various headphones (and bugging Dan...- idale

HD 428 or ultrasone 580?
For some people, yes, and not necessarily in a good way. I have some 580s and really like them, but there's a number of people out there for whom S-Logic just doesn't work and it causes problems for them listening to the audio while others swear by it. I think I'm in the middle where it's fine...- idale

Looking for some on-ear for-home-use-only phones
I feel your pain, lots of noises like that really kill me (didn't used to, of course I have little kids and they make all sorts of noises and tend to be loud about it, too). Been using closed headphones for a while but they aren't cutting it for all the unnerving noises at home so I'll be...- idale

Full-size headphones with much better isolation than my HFI-580
I've been using my Ultrasone HFI-580s for three years now and really like the sound that I get from them (everything seems fairly clean and quick to me, including the bass which is important to me to be fairly tight). The one issue I really have these days is that the isolation really doesn't...- idale

Quote: Any idea why she was hinting at Beats? Has she heard them and likes the sound, or just seen them and likes the styling, or just wants the "hip" factor of the branding? While they're universally (within the forum) regarded as being a poor value (too much money for what you get)...- idale

Recommendation Required. M50's?
Comfort's definitely subjective, because as I'd posted in crinacle's review, I'd personally like to have even more clamp on my HFI-580s. Several people have said that they're not as comfortable as the M50 because of the difference in the shape of the pads, but I've had no complaints personally...- idale

[Review] Battle of the Entry-Level Rivals: Ultrasone HFI-580 vs Audio Technica M50 (vs Pro700 MK2)
Nice review, should definitely be helpful for any newbies looking for an entry-level set with decent bass (like I was not long ago). Agree with most of your thoughts on the 580, though personally I wouldn't mind more clamp on them and I wear them much of the day at work (though I'm up and...- idale

++ FULL-SIZE HEADPHONE RECOMMENDATIONS THREAD++ CLOSED: Please post a thread in the Introductions, Help and Advice forum
Quote: You might look into the Ultrasone DJ1 (not Pro), it's supposed to be almost (or exactly) the same as the HFI-580 but with different badging and a coiled cable instead of straight. My 580s are my first "real" pair of headphones, but I've been really happy with them, and they do...- idale

Another new member looking for bass headphones.. Sorry guys.
Quote: Can't speak on either of those, but I definitely agree on my HFI-580. The bass isn't overwhelming, but instead is focused on being controlled and not overpowering everything else, fitting in nicely. And then you hit a truly bass-oriented track and realize the true potential. It...- idale

About the "Buying headphones?" megathread...
I don't expect people actually read the whole thing (especially these days), but by posting the question there instead of in the main forum, I suppose that it'll keep the redundant questions to one thread rather than "cluttering up" the forum as a whole. It can be hard to read through, though...- idale

Just got my first Amp/DAC, please help me out.
Quote: With the E7, you'll be using its DAC instead of the one in your computer. You'll also be bypassing the built-in analog jack and using the (presumably better) one on the E9 (in the case of E7+E9), which can take care of some of the "constant hiss" issues that you'll run into lots...- idale

Sennheiser HD25-1 or Ultrasone HFI 580 (*edited May 19 added Sony ZX700 out of curiosity)
...to them much of the day) and there's apparently no real headphone shops in the area to audition at, so my experience is extremely limited (*cough*HFI-580 only*cough*) and my research was in a limited sector. Here's one sample thread of someone asking about a closed-back Grado...- idale

Sennheiser HD25-1 or Ultrasone HFI 580 (*edited May 19 added Sony ZX700 out of curiosity)
Quote: I haven't heard the HD-25, but also doubt that the 580 would be what you were looking for. Not that I don't listen to rock (among many other things) on my 580s, but it doesn't seem like the sort of sound that people would generally say is what you want with rock. They certainly...- idale

Ultrasone HFI 580, HFI 780, Ultrasone DJ1 Pro Vs Audio Technica ATH-M50

Looking for a bassy (Beats killer) headphone...Sony XB700 vs. DJ1(Pro) vs HFI 580/780
Quote: Thanks for the comparison from your experience. What I keep remembering from 780 impressions is the whole "omg teh bright!!!!1one", but as everyone's ears and tastes are different, it's always hard to tell when it's people who don't like treble and when it's the headphones...- idale

Looking for a bassy (Beats killer) headphone...Sony XB700 vs. DJ1(Pro) vs HFI 580/780
Quote: From what I've seen when researching my own recent purchase, the HFI-580 is supposed to be the one with more prominent bass. The 780 seems to generally be reviewed as emphasizing treble more (some complain it's too much so), and it sounds like the Pros don't focus much on the...- idale

WTB bassier headphones than ath m50 with better sound quality?
Quote: I certainly can't speak to longevity since I've only had my HFI-580 a week, but they're definitely sturdy. Granted from what I seem to recall M50s are even sturdier (sounds like they're some of the toughest), but these won't up and fall apart on you from what I can see...- idale

WTB bassier headphones than ath m50 with better sound quality?
Quote: If you don't like it, you don't like it, but what specifically about the look and construction don't you like? Wouldn't want people to suggest other sets that might run afoul of the dislikes you have. (I'm especially not sure about the "are made" part, to me that sounds like...- idale

Quote: I do, but that's probably because it's my first and a week old. If you start small, then you can figure out what sort of sound, etc. you like and then you can look at the big guns with a little more of an idea of what you want. Assuming you get something that's a solid starter...- idale

Do I have a faulty/fake pair of m50 or is this ok?
Are you positive it wasn't there, or could it be that you just didn't notice and now that you know it's there it's more prominent (psychology's important sometimes, unfortunately)? Of course, today's when you'd poked around (in the EQ/volume thread) and got your Realtek working, so it's also...- idale

Do I have a faulty/fake pair of m50 or is this ok?
Quote: That's probably the issue, I'd imagine: noise/static from a (slightly) unclean signal coming from the motherboard. Some onboard is pretty clean, others not so much and in those cases you either deal with it or see about bypassing it (discrete sound card, external DAC). It's also...- idale

Any good equalizers for m50s?
Awesome, glad you got it sorted out. Definitely sounds like a reasonable volume level compared to my settings now (so it wasn't too loud earlier, just the audio settings were all screwed up, hehe). Who knew that having the Realtek drivers and software engaged makes that much difference....- idale

Any good equalizers for m50s?
Quote: Just onboard, likely Realtek of some variety on the Win box and who knows what on the MacBook. And I'm not a "loud" listener normally, so what sounds too loud to me might not be loud enough for you, tastewise. Just try not to have it cranked way up, to avoid damaging your hearing...- idale
